Chewy Mussels & Crisp Green Pepper Stir-Fry: A Perfect Side Dish!
How to Make Mussels and Green Pepper Stir-Fry
Hello everyone! Today, I’m sharing a nutritious and delicious side dish for my husband: Mussels and Green Pepper Stir-Fry. Since my husband loves pepper dishes, I often make stir-fries with anchovies, shrimp, or nuts. This time, I decided to try it with dried mussels! Mussels are not only good for your health but also have a wonderfully chewy texture, making them a frequent addition to my cooking. This dish is incredibly easy to make, requiring just mussels and green peppers. The combination of chewy mussels and crisp, fragrant green peppers is truly fantastic. Let’s make this delightful rice accompaniment together!
Main Ingredients- 150g Dried Mussels
- 150g Green Peppers (Cheongyang or similar mild green chili peppers)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the green peppers. Remove the stems cleanly and wash them thoroughly under running water. Place the washed green peppers in a colander to drain completely. Ensuring they are dry will prevent oil splattering when stir-frying.
Step 2
Now, let’s prepare the star of our dish: the dried mussels. Take the dried mussels you have on hand and soak them in warm water for about 15 to 20 minutes until they become plump and soft. Once rehydrated, rinse them under clean water several times to remove any grit, then place them in a colander to drain. The key is to retain their delightfully chewy texture.
Step 3
It’s time to stir-fry the green peppers. Put the drained green peppers into a frying pan and add 1 teaspoon of olive oil. Stir-frying over medium heat, rather than high heat, will help maintain their crispness and vibrant green color. Add about 1 teaspoon of salt while stir-frying to help them cook evenly and retain their fresh hue.
Step 4
Once the green peppers are slightly stir-fried, add 2 tablespoons of soy sauce to enhance the flavor. Stir-fry to coat the peppers evenly with the soy sauce.
Step 5
Next, let’s add some sweetness. Add 1 tablespoon of sugar and stir-fry with the green peppers. A touch of sweetness will complement the mild spiciness of the peppers, creating a savory depth of flavor.
Step 6
Now, it’s time to add the rehydrated dried mussels to the stir-fried green peppers. Dried mussels often have a natural saltiness, so you might not need much additional seasoning. After adding the mussels, stir-fry gently over medium-low heat, just enough to combine them with the peppers. Be careful not to overcook, as this can make the mussels tough.
Step 7
Once all the ingredients are well combined and stir-fried, finish by drizzling in 1 teaspoon of sesame oil for a nutty aroma. Give it one final quick stir to incorporate the sesame oil.
Step 8
Transfer the delicious Mussels and Green Pepper Stir-Fry to a serving dish. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds for extra flavor and visual appeal. Enjoy this wonderful side dish with your rice!
