Main Ingredients- 1 package King Oyster Mushrooms (approx. 200-250g)
- 1 Cheongyang chili pepper
- 1 red chili pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, neatly trim off the tough bottom part of the king oyster mushrooms with a knife. This helps maintain the mushrooms’ freshness and makes them easier to eat.
Step 2
Slice the king oyster mushrooms into bite-sized pieces. Thinly slicing them about 0.5cm thick, or julienning them into 3-4cm lengths, provides a great texture. Feel free to cut them into your preferred shape.
Step 3
Remove the seeds from the Cheongyang and red chili peppers and mince them very finely. The spiciness of the chili and their vibrant color will add wonderful flavor and visual appeal to your dish.
Step 4
Pour enough water into a pot to cover the mushrooms and bring it to a boil over high heat.
Step 5
Once the water starts boiling, add 1 teaspoon of salt. Blanching the mushrooms in salted water helps to enhance their flavor and imparts a slight seasoning.
Step 6
After confirming the water is at a rolling boil,
Step 7
Add all the prepared king oyster mushrooms,
Step 8
Using chopsticks or tongs, quickly stir the mushrooms to prevent them from sticking together and blanch for about 1 to 2 minutes. Be careful not to overcook them, as they can become mushy.
Step 9
The blanching time may vary slightly depending on the thickness and size of the king oyster mushrooms. It’s important not to cook them too long, maintaining a slightly firm, al dente texture.
Step 10
As soon as you remove the blanched mushrooms, rinse them quickly under cold running water to cool them down. This step helps to preserve the mushrooms’ crisp texture.
Step 11
Drain the mushrooms thoroughly in a colander. Gently pressing them to squeeze out excess water will help the seasoning adhere well without making the dish watery.
Step 12
Transfer all the drained mushrooms to a mixing bowl.
Step 13
Now, add all the seasoning ingredients. Add the minced chili peppers, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of minced garlic, 1 teaspoon of soy sauce, and 1 tablespoon of sesame oil.
Step 14
Gently mix everything together with your hands, ensuring the seasoning is evenly distributed throughout the mushrooms. Mix gently along the grain of the mushrooms to prevent them from breaking apart and to maintain their attractive shape.
Step 15
Transfer the deliciously seasoned king oyster mushroom namul to a serving plate. Finally, sprinkle a pinch of toasted sesame seeds over the top for a nutty aroma and appealing presentation.
Step 16
Your chewy and delicious king oyster mushroom namul is now complete! Enjoy this satisfying dish with rice when you’re craving something flavorful. It’s truly delicious!
