A Unique Octopus Dish: How to Make Simple Stir-Fried Octopus Effortlessly
Received some octopus and wondered what to make? Suddenly I felt like stir-frying, so I created this octopus stir-fry! It’s incredibly simple, so anyone can easily make it.
Ingredients- Octopus (tentacles) 1 piece
- Onion 1/2
- Water 50ml
Seasoning- Soy sauce 3 Tbsp
- Corn syrup 1 Tbsp
- Minced garlic 1 tsp
- Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes) 1.5 Tbsp
- Soy sauce 3 Tbsp
- Corn syrup 1 Tbsp
- Minced garlic 1 tsp
- Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes) 1.5 Tbsp
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the seasoning. In a small bowl, combine 3 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of corn syrup, 1 teaspoon of minced garlic, and 1.5 tablespoons of gochugaru. Whisk everything together until well combined. This savory and slightly sweet sauce will beautifully coat the octopus and vegetables.
Step 2
Next, prepare the vegetables. Peel and thinly slice half an onion into strips. Slicing the onion thinly ensures it cooks evenly with the octopus and absorbs the sauce wonderfully.
Step 3
Now, let’s prepare the star of the dish: the octopus. Cut the octopus tentacles into bite-sized pieces. You can cut them into 1-2 cm lengths or any size that’s easy to eat. If you prefer, you can lightly score the tentacles for a more tender texture or briefly blanch them in boiling water before cutting.
Step 4
It’s time to bring all the prepared ingredients together. Place the cut octopus and sliced onions into a bowl. Pour the pre-mixed seasoning sauce over them. You can let this marinate for a few minutes for deeper flavor, or proceed directly to stir-frying.
Step 5
Now, let’s stir-fry! Heat a wide, shallow pan or a wok over medium heat. Add the octopus, onions, and sauce mixture to the hot pan. Stir continuously for about 3-5 minutes, ensuring the ingredients are evenly coated with the sauce and the octopus is cooked through but still tender. Avoid overcooking to maintain a pleasant chewiness.
Step 6
If the pan seems too dry during cooking, or if the octopus appears a bit dry, add about 50ml of water. This will help create a slightly saucier consistency and prevent the octopus from becoming tough. Continue to stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes, allowing the sauce to reduce slightly and coat the ingredients beautifully.
Step 7
Once beautifully stir-fried, transfer the octopus dish to a serving plate. Garnish with sesame seeds or chopped green onions for an extra touch of flavor and visual appeal. This dish is perfect served over steamed rice for a hearty meal or enjoyed as a delicious appetizer with a cold drink. Enjoy your homemade stir-fried octopus!
