Main Ingredients

  • 4 sheets of square fish cakes (or long fish cakes)
  • 1/2 onion
  • 1 stalk of green onion

Seasoning

  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 Tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 Tbsp oligosaccharide (or corn syrup)
  • Appropriate amount of canola oil (or cooking oil)
  • A pinch of sesame seeds (optional)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, let’s cut the fish cakes into bite-sized pieces. If using square fish cakes, cut them into 2-3 pieces lengthwise or into bite-sized pieces that are easy for children to pick up and eat. Slice the green onion lengthwise, similar to the width of the fish cakes. Also, thinly slice the onion. Having the sliced vegetables ready separately will make stir-frying more convenient.

Step 1

Step 2

Heat 1-2 tablespoons of canola oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and fish cakes. Now, add the seasoning ingredients: 1/2 tablespoon of oyster sauce and 1 tablespoon of soy sauce. Adding the sauce first and then stir-frying helps the sauce penetrate the fish cakes evenly, making them more flavorful.

Step 2

Step 3

Stir-fry gently over medium heat using a spatula or chopsticks, making sure the fish cakes and onions don’t clump together. Stir-fry for about 1-2 minutes until the onions become translucent and the fish cakes are slightly softened. Be mindful of the heat to prevent burning.

Step 3

Step 4

Once they are somewhat cooked, add the prepared green onions and stir-fry together. When the green onions have slightly wilted, add 1 tablespoon of oligosaccharide for sweetness and finish with a glossy sheen. You can also sprinkle a pinch of sesame seeds at this stage if you like.

Step 4

Step 5

Turn off the heat once the sauce is well combined and the fish cakes and vegetables are tender. It’s delicious served hot, and it becomes chewier as it cools, making it an excellent side dish for bento boxes. Enjoy your meal!
