Main Ingredients- 234g fresh wakame seaweed
- 2 stalks green onions
Seasoning- 1 tsp soup soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp anchovy sauce
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
- 1 tsp soup soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp anchovy sauce
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare fresh, vibrant wakame seaweed. Fill a large bowl with plenty of cold water. Gently rub the seaweed between your hands as if you were washing laundry, to remove any impurities. Repeat this process 4-5 times until no more dirt or slimy residue comes out. Thoroughly rinsing is key to enjoying the clean, pure taste of the seaweed.
Step 2
Now it’s time to blanch the seaweed. Fill a pot with ample water and bring it to a rolling boil. Once boiling, add the prepared seaweed and stir it gently. You’ll notice the dark brown color of the seaweed transform into a vibrant green. Have your colander ready to drain immediately.
Step 3
Immediately after blanching, rinse the seaweed thoroughly under cold running water. Cooling the seaweed in cold water right after taking it out of the hot water helps maintain its crisp texture and bright green color. This cooling process makes the seaweed even more refreshing.
Step 4
Squeeze out as much water as possible from the blanched seaweed, then cut it into bite-sized pieces. Cutting them into lengths that are easy to eat in one bite ensures the seasoning coats evenly and makes them convenient to enjoy. You can also cut them slightly longer if you prefer.
Step 5
Wash the fresh green onions and finely chop them. The mild pungency of the green onions will enhance the overall flavor of the seaweed salad.
Step 6
In a large bowl, combine the prepared wakame seaweed and the chopped green onions. Add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic to boost the flavor. The garlic’s gentle spice will help eliminate any fishy smell from the seaweed and add a savory depth.
Step 7
Now, let’s add the seasoning for that savory kick. Add 1 teaspoon of soup soy sauce for a clean taste and 1 tablespoon of anchovy sauce for a richer flavor. Combining both creates a more complex and delicious taste.
Step 8
Finally, add 1 tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds for a nutty aroma and 1 tablespoon of fragrant sesame oil. Gently mix everything together with your hands, ‘jomul-jomul’ (a gentle massaging motion), until the seasoning is well combined. Your delicious seaweed salad is ready! Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed by adding a little more anchovy sauce or soup soy sauce.
