Achieve Your Figure and Health Goals with Chewy Seaweed Wraps! (How to Blanch Salted Kelp)
Today, I’m excited to share a recipe for ‘Dasima Ssam’ (seaweed wraps) that’s perfect for everyone, especially those focused on their health and fitness. I generally love vegetables and enjoy dishes like bibimbap and wraps. This time, I made these delicious seaweed wraps. They taste fantastic and make you feel like you’re on a healthy diet! The flavor is wholesome and not overwhelming, making them easy to enjoy. These wraps made with salted kelp are a delightful treat. Give them a try!
Ingredients- 1/2 pack salted kelp (approx. 150-200g)
- 0.5 Tbsp vinegar (for desalting)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the salted kelp, the star ingredient for our seaweed wraps. If you have about half a pack, rinse it thoroughly under cold running water, gently shaking off any excess salt from the surface. This process effectively removes the saltiness.
Step 2
Now, it’s time to soak the kelp to remove the salt. Place the rinsed kelp in a bowl of cold water and let it soak for about 20 to 30 minutes. You can also add 0.5 tablespoon of vinegar to the water; this helps neutralize any fishy smell and contributes to a cleaner taste. If possible, change the water once or twice during soaking.
Step 3
For those who are sensitive to the ‘taste of the sea’ or the slightly slippery texture of salted kelp, we’ll add a quick blanching step. Bring a pot of water to a boil, add the soaked kelp, and blanch it for about 1 to 2 minutes. Be careful not to overcook, as it can make the texture mushy.
Step 4
After blanching, rinse the kelp under cold water to cool it down. Then, cut it into bite-sized pieces or your desired shape, and your delicious seaweed wraps are ready! These wraps are packed with nutrients, making them ideal for anyone on a diet or concerned about hair loss. They are wonderful dipped in a spicy-sweet gochujang sauce (chojang) or enjoyed with a canned mackerel ssamjang, which I’ve also shared a recipe for (@6977712). Even with regular ssamjang, they are absolutely delicious. Wrapped around rice, they are simply irresistible!
Step 5
If you have some kelp sitting in your fridge, transform it today into these simple and tasty seaweed wraps! Kelp is known to be beneficial for hair health, so you can nourish your body while enjoying a delicious meal. Brighten up your appetite today with these flavorful and healthy seaweed wraps!
