Main Ingredients

  • 80g frozen octopus (thawed and prepared)
  • 1/4 onion (finely chopped)
  • 1/5 carrot (finely chopped)
  • 1 bowl of cooked rice (warm)
  • 1 clove garlic (thinly sliced)

Seasoning

  • 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
  • 2 Tbsp cooking wine (mirin or sake)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, thinly slice 1 clove of garlic. Heat a little cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the sliced garlic and stir-fry until fragrant, creating a flavorful garlic oil. Be careful not to burn it; frying until lightly golden is key.

Step 1

Step 2

Before the garlic gets too dark, add the finely chopped 1/5 carrot and 1/4 onion. Stir-fry them together. Cooking the vegetables until they release their natural sweetness will greatly enhance the flavor of your fried rice.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the onions turn translucent and start to brown slightly, add the 80g of thawed frozen octopus. To remove any fishy odor and ensure tenderness, you can marinate the octopus in 2 Tbsp of cooking wine beforehand. Drain the octopus and discard the excess wine before adding it to the pan. Stir-fry quickly to prevent the octopus from sticking.

Step 3

Step 4

When the octopus tentacles begin to curl slightly, add 1 bowl of warm cooked rice. Gently stir-fry to combine all the ingredients. It’s best to break up any clumps of rice with your spatula as you stir to ensure even cooking.

Step 4

Step 5

Now, add 1 Tbsp of oyster sauce for a rich umami flavor. Oyster sauce is like a magic ingredient that elevates the taste of fried rice.

Step 5

Step 6

Continue to stir-fry, mixing everything well until the oyster sauce is evenly distributed throughout the rice and ingredients. Once all the ingredients are combined and the aroma of oyster sauce fills the air, your delicious octopus fried rice is ready! For an extra touch, you can drizzle a little sesame oil before serving.
