Main Ingredients- 200g Korean fish cakes (e.g., two sheets)
- 1 stalk green onion
- 1/2 onion
- 1/4 Korean zucchini (Aehobak)
Seasoning Ingredients- 2 Tbsp cooking oil
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 5 Tbsp water
- 1/2 Tbsp oyster sauce (optional, adds depth of flavor)
- 1/2 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp corn syrup or rice syrup (for shine and sweetness)
- Pinch of black pepper
- 2 Tbsp cooking oil
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 5 Tbsp water
- 1/2 Tbsp oyster sauce (optional, adds depth of flavor)
- 1/2 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp corn syrup or rice syrup (for shine and sweetness)
- Pinch of black pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare all the ingredients for the dish. Wash the vegetables and pat them dry.
Step 2
Briefly blanch the fish cakes in boiling water to remove any impurities, then cut them into bite-sized pieces (about 2-3 cm). This step helps them absorb the sauce better and improves texture. Slice the green onion diagonally.
Step 3
Slice the onion into strips. Cut the Korean zucchini into half-moon or stick shapes, similar in size to the fish cakes. Be careful not to slice them too thinly, or they might break apart during cooking.
Step 4
Heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, being careful not to burn it. Then, add the sliced onion and green onion and stir-fry until they become translucent and aromatic.
Step 5
Now, add the prepared fish cakes to the pan and stir-fry them with the vegetables. Pour in 5 tablespoons of water. Cooking with a little water helps make the fish cakes chewier and prevents the sauce from burning.
Step 6
Add 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of corn syrup, 1/2 tablespoon of sugar, and a little oyster sauce (optional) to the pan. Stir well to ensure the seasonings are evenly distributed.
Step 7
Finally, sprinkle a pinch of black pepper for added aroma and quickly mix everything together. (Note: The original recipe mentioned 1 Tbsp sesame oil, which has been omitted here for clarity but can be added to your preference).
Step 8
Once all ingredients are cooked and the sauce has thickened slightly, turn off the heat and finish. Avoid overcooking, as the fish cakes can become tough.
Step 9
Your delicious, kid-friendly pan-fried fish cakes are ready to be enjoyed with a warm bowl of rice! This dish is sure to be a hit at your dinner table.
