Chewy and Delicious Glutinous Rice Donuts
Making Chewy Glutinous Rice Donuts for Kids’ Snacks!
I had a lot of glutinous rice flour at home, so I decided to try making glutinous rice donuts! They are crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Make them easily at home for a delightful snack time with your children.
Glutinous Rice Donut Dough Ingredients- 600g glutinous rice flour
- 150g cake flour (sifted)
- 200g granulated sugar
- 1/2 Tbsp salt
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 100g butter (melted)
- Hot water (for adjusting dough consistency, as needed)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, measure out and prepare 600g of glutinous rice flour and 150g of cake flour. Sift the cake flour two to three times to ensure a smooth dough without lumps.
Step 2
In a large bowl, combine the sifted glutinous rice flour and cake flour. Add 200g of granulated sugar and 1/2 Tbsp of salt. Mix all the dry ingredients thoroughly.
Step 3
Melt 100g of butter by microwaving it for about 30 seconds to 1 minute, or until fully liquid. Pour the melted butter into the bowl with the dry ingredients.
Step 4
Don’t forget to add 1 tsp of baking powder. Baking powder helps to make the donuts softer and fluffier.
Step 5
Now it’s time to make the dough using hot water (hot water dough). Gradually add hot water while kneading the dough. It’s important to achieve the right consistency – not too sticky and not too dry. Knead until the dough is smooth and doesn’t stick to your hands.
Step 6
When the dough is complete, it will form a cohesive ball. It might seem like a lot of dough at first, but this is part of making the wonderfully chewy donuts, so proceed patiently.
Step 7
Take small portions of the dough and roll them into round, slightly flattened balls with your hands. If you’re making these with children, this step can be a fun activity to do together.
Step 8
To prevent the shaped dough from drying out, cover the dough balls with plastic wrap or a damp kitchen towel. If the surface of the dough dries, the donuts might not fry up nicely or their texture could be affected.
Step 9
Pour a generous amount of cooking oil into a deep pan and heat it over medium-low heat to about 170-180°C (340-355°F). Once the oil is sufficiently hot, carefully add the dough balls. Roll them around gently in the oil while frying until they turn golden brown, for about 5-7 minutes. (Be careful not to fry at too high a heat, as the outside might burn before the inside is cooked.)
Step 10
Remove the fried glutinous rice donuts and let them cool slightly. While they are still warm, place them in a bag with granulated sugar and toss them around to coat both sides for a delicious finish. For an extra touch, you can mix in some cinnamon powder with the sugar before coating.
