Main Ingredients- 150g canned tuna (drained)
- 1/2 onion
- 1/2 stalk of green onion (white parts mostly)
- 2 Cheongyang chili peppers
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 carrot
- 4 Tbsp pancake mix (approx. 40g)
Seasoning- 1 Tbsp tuna extract (or soy sauce)
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 2 pinches of salt (adjust to taste)
- 1 Tbsp tuna extract (or soy sauce)
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 2 pinches of salt (adjust to taste)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Let’s start by preparing the vegetables. Finely mince the carrot. The smaller the pieces, the better the patty ingredients will bind together. You can also grate it.
Step 2
Finely mince the onion, just like the carrot. Onions can release a lot of moisture, so pressing them with a paper towel can help prevent the batter from becoming too watery.
Step 3
For a touch of spiciness, halve the Cheongyang chili peppers, remove the seeds, and mince them finely, similar in size to the onions. If you prefer less heat, you can use regular green peppers or reduce the quantity.
Step 4
Finely mince the green onion, focusing on the white parts. The aromatic green onion adds depth to the flavor of the patties. Make sure to chop them finely, not too coarse.
Step 5
In a large bowl, combine the well-drained canned tuna, minced carrot, onion, Cheongyang chili peppers, and green onion. Add the 2 eggs; they will help bind all the ingredients together.
Step 6
Add 4 tablespoons of pancake mix to help bind the mixture. If you don’t have pancake mix, a combination of all-purpose flour and tempura flour can work. Adjust the amount based on how well the ingredients bind.
Step 7
Season with 1 tablespoon of tuna extract for savory depth, 1/2 tablespoon of minced garlic, and 2 pinches of salt. You can substitute soy sauce for tuna extract. Adjust the seasoning to your taste and the amount of ingredients.
Step 8
Using a spoon or your hands, mix all the ingredients thoroughly to form a cohesive batter. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the patties tough. Mix just enough until the ingredients are well combined.
Step 9
Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a frying pan over medium-low heat. Drop spoonfuls of the mixture onto the pan, forming them into small, slightly thick patties. If the batter is too thin, they might spread out, so be mindful of the consistency.
Step 10
Once the bottom side is golden brown, flip the patties and cook the other side until equally golden and cooked through. Maintaining the right heat is crucial for cooking them evenly inside and out. This should take about 4-5 minutes in total.
Step 11
Your delicious, golden-brown Tuna Patties are ready! They taste best when served warm. Enjoy them as a satisfying meal or snack, perhaps with some kimchi or a side salad.
