Cheesy Roll Toast: A Delightful and Filling Treat for Kids!
Easy Cheese Roll Toast for a Quick Snack
My child loves bread with cheese, so this recipe was born out of a desire to create a simple, delicious treat using ingredients already at hand! This Cheesy Roll Toast is perfect for kids and can even double as a light brunch option.
Main Ingredients
- 3 slices of bread
- 3 slices of cheese
- 1 egg
- 1 Tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 Tbsp butter
Seasoning & Others
- 1/3 Tbsp sugar
- 2 pinches of salt
- A little parsley flakes (optional)
- 1/3 Tbsp sugar
- 2 pinches of salt
- A little parsley flakes (optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Flatten the bread slices using a rolling pin or a cup, keeping the crusts intact. This helps the bread roll up neatly and prevents the filling from spilling out.
Step 2
Spread about 1/3 tablespoon of mayonnaise thinly on one end of the flattened bread. The mayonnaise acts as a binder, helping to keep the roll from unraveling.
Step 3
Place a slice of cheese on the end with the mayonnaise, then tightly roll up the bread. The melting cheese will help seal the roll.
Step 4
Wrap the rolled bread tightly using the cheese’s plastic wrapper or plastic wrap. This helps maintain the shape while it sets.
Step 5
Let it rest for at least 5 minutes to allow the bread to hold its shape. You can let it sit longer if time permits.
Step 6
In a bowl, whisk together 1 egg, 1 tablespoon of milk (or water), 1/3 tablespoon of sugar, and 2 pinches of salt to create the egg wash. Adding milk will make the bread softer.
Step 7
Parsley flakes are optional. They add flavor and color, but you can omit them if you don’t have any or if your child prefers it without.
Step 8
Dip the shaped bread rolls into the egg wash, ensuring they are thoroughly coated on all sides. It’s easier to dip the ends first to ensure the egg wash soaks in evenly.
Step 9
Note: 1 egg, 3 slices of bread, and 3 slices of cheese can make about 3-4 cheese rolls. Adjust the quantities as needed.
Step 10
Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a pan over medium-low heat until melted. Be careful not to let the butter burn.
Step 11
When placing the egg-washed bread rolls in the pan, start by placing the seam side down. This will help prevent the roll from opening up as it cooks.
Step 12
Turn the rolls occasionally to ensure they are golden brown and evenly cooked on all sides. Keep an eye on the heat to prevent burning.
Step 13
Use tongs to gently toast the sides of the rolls for about 10 seconds each. This ensures even crispiness.
Step 14
Once golden brown and cooked through, transfer the rolls to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess grease. This makes them less oily and more enjoyable.
Step 15
Let them cool slightly, then slice into bite-sized pieces. Your delicious Cheesy Roll Toast is ready! Enjoy while warm for that delightful cheese pull.
