Easy and Healthy Blueberry Banana Smoothie Recipe Using Frozen Blueberries
Blueberries are rich in anthocyanins, which are great for eye health, beta-carotene for antioxidant effects, and vitamin E for anti-aging. They are a favorite fruit among my children, and while their peak season is from July to September, they are conveniently available year-round as frozen fruit. On days when the weather is still warm, I like to make this refreshing smoothie for my kids as an after-school snack, using frozen blueberries. You don’t even need to add ice separately; the frozen fruit itself makes for a wonderfully cool and delicious homemade juice. By adding a banana, which is packed with dietary fiber for fullness and gut health, and polyphenols that boost immunity, you can create a satisfyingly smooth, sweet, and tangy blueberry banana smoothie. Today, I’ll walk you through step-by-step how to make this homemade juice that perfectly balances taste and nutrition, enhanced with the goodness of yogurt and banana, which are excellent companions for blueberries in supporting gut health.
Ingredients- 2 cups frozen blueberries
- 1 banana
- 1 bottle (approx. 100ml) yogurt drink
- 1-2 Tbsp honey (optional, for sweetness adjustment)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare your ingredients for a 2-cup serving. In this recipe, the natural sweetness of the fruit might be sufficient, making the honey optional. If you prefer a sweeter taste, you can substitute honey with allulose or oligosaccharide. Frozen blueberries are typically washed before freezing, so they are generally safe to use as is. However, a quick rinse under water can provide extra peace of mind. ^^
Step 2
Now, with just a blender, you can whip this up in no time! Add the 2 cups of frozen blueberries and 1 banana to your blender.
Step 3
Pour in one bottle (about 100ml) of yogurt drink. Yogurt is a great pairing with blueberries, especially for gut health. While you can use milk, a yogurt drink adds a delightful tangy flavor, making your smoothie taste more like a cafe-style fruit yogurt drink. ^^
Step 4
To make it extra sweet for the kids, I added 1-2 tablespoons of honey. You can also adjust the sweetness with oligosaccharide or allulose. For a smoother consistency, blend until completely smooth. If you enjoy a bit of texture, blend for slightly less time so you can still bite into some fruit pieces. Blend according to your preference.
Step 5
Your thick, creamy, and smooth homemade smoothie is ready! Garnish with a few blueberries on top – the kids will love it even more and ask for seconds! ^^ Frozen blueberries, easily accessible year-round, are versatile and great not only for smoothies but also as yogurt toppings or in salads. Since my children love blueberries, I often make various blueberry juice recipes for them, but this smoothie made with frozen berries, sweet banana, and a touch of yogurt drink is their absolute favorite. This recipe is perfect as a healthy homemade juice from mom, a delightful home cafe menu item, and even impressive enough for entertaining guests. Enjoy making this delicious blueberry yogurt smoothie!
