  • 1 pack beef brisket (approx. 200g)
  • 1/4 Korean radish (approx. 200g)
  • 1/2 onion
  • 1/2 orange bell pepper
  • 1/2 yellow bell pepper
  • 1 bunch enoki mushrooms
  • 1 pack tteokbokki rice cakes (approx. 300g)
  • 200ml water

Beef Brisket Marinade

  • 1.5 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic

Royal Stir-fried Rice Cakes Seasoning

  • 1/3 bowl soy sauce (approx. 50ml)
  • 4 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Before you begin, soak the tteokbokki rice cakes in cold water for at least 30 minutes to soften them. This helps them cook evenly and maintain a chewy texture.

Step 1

Step 2

In a bowl, combine the beef brisket with 1.5 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp sugar, and 1 Tbsp minced garlic. Mix well to marinate. Let it sit for a bit to allow the flavors to penetrate the meat.

Step 2

Step 3

Peel the onion and cut it into 1.5cm cubes (dice).

Step 3

Step 4

Remove the seeds from the yellow bell pepper and dice it into similar-sized pieces as the onion. The vibrant color will enhance the dish’s appeal.

Step 4

Step 5

Remove the seeds from the orange bell pepper and dice it into pieces of the same size as the yellow bell pepper.

Step 5

Step 6

Cut the large green onion into diagonal pieces, about 3-4cm long. This will add a fragrant aroma.

Step 6

Step 7

Slice the Korean radish thinly (about 0.5cm thick), either in flat slices (nabak-sseolgi) or julienne them into 4-5cm lengths. The radish adds a refreshing taste and a delightful crunch.

Step 7

Step 8

Heat a wide pan over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef brisket and stir-fry until it’s nicely browned. Make sure to separate the slices so they don’t clump together.

Step 8

Step 9

Once the beef brisket is almost cooked through, add the prepared radish and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes. When the radish starts to look slightly translucent, pour in 200ml of water, cover the pan, and let it simmer for about 5 minutes to soften the radish.

Step 9

Step 10

Remove the lid and add the soaked tteokbokki rice cakes. Stir-fry over medium heat until the water has mostly evaporated and the rice cakes are soft and chewy. Be careful not to let them stick to the pan. If it gets too dry, you can add a little more water.

Step 10

Step 11

When the rice cakes are partially cooked, add 1 Tbsp of minced garlic and stir-fry to infuse the garlic flavor.

Step 11

Step 12

Pour 1/3 bowl (approx. 50ml) of soy sauce around the edges of the pan. This helps the soy sauce caramelize slightly and adds more depth of flavor.

Step 12

Step 13

Add 4 Tbsp of sugar and stir-fry until all the ingredients and seasonings are well combined. Continue cooking until the rice cakes are fully cooked and the sauce is slightly thickened.

Step 13

Step 14

Once the rice cakes are done, add the diced onion and bell peppers. Stir-fry over high heat for 2 minutes. It’s important to keep the vegetables crisp.

Step 14

Step 15

Finally, add the enoki mushrooms and stir-fry for another minute until they are tender and slightly wilted.

Step 15

Step 16

Add the sliced green onion and stir-fry for 3 more minutes to incorporate the fragrance. Just before turning off the heat, drizzle in 1 Tbsp of sesame oil and quickly toss everything for about 30 seconds using the residual heat. Adding sesame oil at the end preserves its fragrant aroma.
