Authentic Long Island Iced Tea: A Surprising Cocktail That Tastes Like Tea, But Contains None
Crafting the Perfect Long Island Iced Tea at Home! Discover how to make the ‘real’ Long Island Iced Tea cocktail, which surprisingly tastes like iced tea but contains absolutely no tea.
Contrary to its name, we’ve created the ‘Long Island Iced Tea’ cocktail, which contains absolutely no tea! We invite you to explore the fascinating world of this cocktail where five essential spirits, refreshing lemon juice, and cola come together in perfect harmony.
Base Spirits- Tequila 1/2oz (15ml)
- White Rum 1/2oz (15ml)
- Vodka 1/2oz (15ml)
- Gin 1/2oz (15ml)
- Triple Sec (Orange Liqueur) 1/2oz (15ml)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Begin by selecting a 450ml capacity highball or collins glass. Fill the glass generously with ice. This will help keep your cocktail chilled and slow down dilution, ensuring a more refreshing drink.
Step 2
Into the ice-filled glass, pour 1/2oz (15ml) of each of the five base spirits. The key to the Long Island Iced Tea’s unique flavor profile lies in this perfect 1:1:1:1:1 ratio of Tequila, White Rum, Vodka, Gin, and Triple Sec. Getting this balance right is crucial.
Step 3
Now, it’s time to add a touch of brightness. Pour 1oz (30ml) of freshly squeezed lemon juice into the glass over the spirits. The citrusy tang of lemon juice beautifully balances the robust flavors of the liquors, creating a smoother taste.
Step 4
Finally, top off the glass with cola. Slowly fill the remaining space in the glass with cola. The sweetness and carbonation of the cola will naturally meld with the other ingredients, enhancing the overall complexity of the cocktail. Adjust the amount of cola based on your glass size.
Step 5
Once all ingredients are in the glass, gently stir the mixture 1-2 times from the bottom up using a bar spoon or a long stirrer. Avoid over-stirring; a light mix is all that’s needed to combine the flavors. Your spectacular Long Island Iced Tea is now complete! Feel free to garnish with a lemon slice or a cherry for an extra touch.
