Aromatic Sea Squirt Bibimbap: Enjoy the Taste of the Sea at Home!
Healthy Bibimbap Made with Savory Sea Squirt Jangajji (Pickled Fermented Sea Squirt)
Introducing a special bibimbap recipe using ‘Meongge Jangajji’ (pickled fermented sea squirt), a delicacy from Gijang Market, known for its abundant fresh sea squirts. Instead of fresh sea squirts, you can create a satisfying meal with the umami-rich pickled version. The harmony of the sea squirt’s refreshing aroma, fragrant minari (water parsley), and nutty sesame oil is truly exquisite. Although simple to make, it transforms into a gourmet dish. It’s incredibly popular for casual gatherings with friends or church meetings! Make your delicious sea squirt bibimbap right away!
Ingredients- Sea Squirt Jangajji (pickled fermented sea squirt) 3 Tbsp
- 1/8 Onion, thinly julienned
- 5-6 sprigs Minari (water parsley), finely chopped
- 2 Lettuce leaves, thinly julienned
- 1 clove Garlic, thinly sliced and then finely julienned
- Sesame oil, to taste
- Sesame seeds, to taste
- Seasoned Gim (seaweed laver) (optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare 3 tablespoons of Sea Squirt Jangajji. If the pieces are too large, gently chop them with a knife for easier eating. Then, place the thinly sliced and julienned garlic over the prepared Sea Squirt Jangajji. Finally, drizzle a little sesame oil for a fragrant finish. Your sea squirt topping is ready!
Step 2
Wash the onion and lettuce, pat them dry, and thinly julienne them. Trim and wash the minari, then finely chop it into about 0.5cm pieces. These prepared vegetables will add freshness and a delightful crunch to your bibimbap.
Step 3
Place a generous portion of warm rice into a bowl. It’s best when the rice isn’t too hot, as this helps enhance the flavors of the ingredients when mixed.
Step 4
Now, artfully arrange the julienned onion, lettuce, chopped minari, and the garlic-topped Sea Squirt Jangajji over the rice. The vibrant colors of the vegetables will make the dish look even more appetizing. Finish by drizzling about two rounds of sesame oil for that nutty aroma and sprinkling sesame seeds generously. If you like, crumble some seasoned gim (seaweed laver) on top for an extra layer of flavor. Mix well and enjoy your delicious bibimbap!
