Aromatic Perilla Leaf and Fish Cake Fritters: Easy & Delicious Snack Recipe
How to Make Delicious Perilla Leaf and Fish Cake Fritters
Here’s how to make perilla leaf and fish cake fritters that are simply irresistible! The fresh, aromatic perilla leaves combined with savory fish cakes create a delightful bite.
Main Ingredients- 4 sheets of square fish cakes
- 16 fresh perilla leaves
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the perilla leaves thoroughly and pat them dry. Trim off the tough stem ends of the perilla leaves with a knife for a cleaner presentation and easier eating.
Step 2
Cut each sheet of square fish cake into 4 equal pieces. This ensures a pleasant bite-sized portion.
Step 3
Spread 2 tablespoons of frying flour on a wide plate or tray. Lightly coat both sides of each perilla leaf with the flour, then gently shake off any excess. This dusting helps the egg wash adhere better.
Step 4
Now, wrap each piece of fish cake with a coated perilla leaf. You can use one perilla leaf to wrap the fish cake, then add another layer, or wrap two pieces of fish cake together with a perilla leaf. Stack them neatly to prevent them from unfolding while cooking.
Step 5
In a bowl, whisk together 2-3 eggs and 2 pinches of salt to create an egg wash. Dip each prepared perilla leaf and fish cake bundle into the egg wash, ensuring it’s evenly coated on all sides.
Step 6
Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a frying pan over medium-low heat. Once the oil is shimmering, carefully place the egg-coated bundles into the pan. Fry them until golden brown on both sides, being careful not to burn them.
Step 7
When the bottom side is nicely golden and crispy, gently flip the fritters over and cook the other side until it’s also golden brown and delicious. Ensure even cooking.
Step 8
Since perilla leaves and fish cakes cook quickly, these fritters are done once the egg wash is fully cooked and fragrant. No need to overcook!
Step 9
If there’s excess oil in the pan during cooking, you can carefully blot it away with a paper towel periodically. This will help achieve a cleaner and more visually appealing final product.
Step 10
If you have any leftover egg wash, you can pour it into the pan and scramble it to enjoy alongside your fritters. It makes for a tasty bonus!
