Main Ingredients- 8 fresh Aralia elata shoots (cleaned and trimmed)
- 8 strips of bacon (cut to wrap the Aralia)
- Olive oil, for drizzling
Sauce Ingredients- 1 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 Tbsp Vinegar
- 1/2 Tbsp minced Garlic
- 1/3 Tbsp Oligodang (corn syrup or rice syrup)
- Sesame oil, to taste
- Toasted sesame seeds, for garnish
- 1 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 Tbsp Vinegar
- 1/2 Tbsp minced Garlic
- 1/3 Tbsp Oligodang (corn syrup or rice syrup)
- Sesame oil, to taste
- Toasted sesame seeds, for garnish
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare your cleaned Aralia shoots. Place them in a steam air fryer set to 100°C (212°F) and steam for 10 minutes. This process gently softens the Aralia and reduces its characteristic slight bitterness.
Step 2
Once the Aralia is tender and slightly cooled, wrap each shoot snugly with a strip of bacon. Ensure the end of the bacon is tucked in to prevent it from unraveling during cooking.
Step 3
Arrange the bacon-wrapped Aralia in the air fryer basket. Lightly drizzle olive oil over the rolls. This will help the bacon crisp up beautifully.
Step 4
Set the air fryer to 180°C (356°F) and cook for 7 to 10 minutes, or until the bacon is golden brown and crispy. It’s a good idea to check on them halfway through to ensure they don’t burn.
Step 5
While the Aralia and bacon rolls are cooking, prepare the sauce. In a small bowl, combine 1 Tbsp Gochujang, 1 Tbsp vinegar, 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic, 1/3 Tbsp Oligodang, a drizzle of sesame oil, and a sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds. Mix well until smooth.
Step 6
Arrange the cooked Aralia and bacon rolls on a serving plate. Serve with the prepared sauce on the side for dipping, or drizzle it lightly over the rolls. The combination of fragrant spring Aralia, savory bacon, and the sweet and spicy sauce is absolutely delightful!
