Are you looking for a way to use up apples that are about to go bad? This recipe for apple compote is perfect! It’s a delightful way to enjoy the pure flavor of fruit, similar to jam, but with significantly less sugar. It’s so easy, you’ll be amazed! This compote is wonderful on its own or as a topping for breakfast, making your fruit consumption a truly special experience.
Ingredients- 1 medium apple
- 40g sugar (adjust to taste)
- 2 tsp lemon juice
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Pro Tip: To save time, juice lemons when they are in season and freeze the juice in an ice cube tray. This way, you can easily use fresh lemon juice whenever your recipe calls for it! Consider this for other seasonal fruits as well.
Step 2
Wash the apple thoroughly. Cut it into 8 wedges, then peel the skin off each wedge. Carefully remove and discard the core and seeds from each piece.
Step 3
Place the prepared apple wedges, sugar, and lemon juice into a saucepan.
Step 4
Add just enough water to the saucepan so that the apple pieces are mostly submerged. You want a ‘just barely’ amount of liquid.
Step 5
Simmer over low heat for about 20 minutes, or until the apple pieces become tender and translucent. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. The compote is ready when the apples look clear and soft.
