Air Fryer Salt-Grilled Chicken Skewers
Enjoy a camping vibe at home! A recipe for moist and savory salt-grilled chicken skewers made in an air fryer. You can enjoy them deliciously without any fishy smell concerns. Perfect for kids’ snacks and beer accompaniment! ^^
To kick off the weekend, I made some air fryer salt-grilled chicken skewers. They are grilled to a perfect golden brown on the outside and remain wonderfully juicy on the inside – absolutely delicious!
Main Ingredients- 400g boneless chicken thigh meat
- 1 stalk green onion
- Tteok (Korean rice cake) slices, as needed (cut into 3cm pieces)
- Milk, enough to cover the chicken
- 1/2 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
- Pinch of black pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare 400g of boneless chicken thigh meat to remove any gamey odor. Pour enough milk to completely cover the chicken and let it soak for about 30 minutes. This process effectively removes any unpleasant smells, resulting in a much cleaner flavor.
Step 2
After 30 minutes, drain the milk from the chicken using a colander. Patting the chicken dry with paper towels will further help achieve a better texture.
Step 3
Season the soaked chicken with 1/2 teaspoon of salt (adjust according to your preference; it’s better to start with less and add more later if needed) and a pinch of black pepper. Gently mix them together by hand.
Step 4
Let the seasoned chicken rest for another 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. During this time, prepare the other ingredients.
Step 5
Soak the wooden skewers in water for about 10 minutes before use. This step helps prevent the skewers from burning when cooked in the oven or air fryer.
Step 6
Cut the green onion stalk into large 3cm pieces. Also, cut the tteok (rice cakes) into similar 3cm lengths. If the tteok is a bit hard, you can briefly blanch it in boiling water before cutting.
Step 7
Thread the chicken, tteok, and green onion onto the skewers in an alternating pattern, such as ‘chicken-tteok-green onion’. Avoid overcrowding the skewers; leaving a little space between ingredients will help them cook more evenly.
Step 8
Once the skewers are assembled, lightly spray the surfaces with cooking oil. This will help them achieve a crispier, golden-brown finish, making them look more appealing.
Step 9
Place the chicken skewers in a preheated air fryer and cook at 180°C (350°F) for 20 minutes. The first 20 minutes are for cooking one side.
Step 10
About halfway through the cooking time (around 10 minutes), open the air fryer and flip the skewers. Spray the other side with oil once more for an even more delicious result. Continue cooking for the remaining 10 minutes to get the other side nicely browned.
Step 11
Once perfectly golden and cooked through, arrange the delicious chicken skewers on a plate. They are best enjoyed immediately while warm.
Step 12
Enjoy your homemade, delicious chicken skewers! ^^
