- 1 paper cup Soy Sauce (approx. 180ml)
- 1 paper cup Water (approx. 180ml)
- 2 Tbsp Sugar
- 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- A pinch of Sesame Seeds
- A dash of Sesame Oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare all the ingredients for your delicious marinated eggs. It’s helpful to let the eggs sit at room temperature for a bit before boiling, as this can help prevent them from cracking.
Step 2
Thinly slice the onion. Cut the chives (or scallions) into pieces about 3-4 cm long. Slicing them thinly allows the marinade to penetrate better.
Step 3
Pour 1 paper cup of soy sauce into a bowl or measuring cup. After pouring the soy sauce, rinse the same paper cup with water and add the water to the bowl with the soy sauce. This creates the perfect dilution ratio!
Step 4
Add 2 tablespoons of sugar for sweetness and stir until the soy sauce and water are well combined. You can adjust the amount of sugar depending on the type you use.
Step 5
Add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic for a boost of flavor. Freshly minced garlic is one of the key secrets to the amazing taste of these eggs.
Step 6
Add the pre-sliced onion and chives (or scallions) to the marinade. The vegetables will soften and infuse the marinade with their flavor, adding a pleasant texture.
Step 7
Add a dash of sesame oil for nuttiness and a pinch of sesame seeds. Adding the sesame oil last helps preserve its fragrant aroma.
Step 8
Mix all the marinade ingredients thoroughly until well combined. Once the marinade is ready, taste it and adjust if necessary by adding more soy sauce for saltiness or sugar for sweetness, according to your preference.
Step 9
Carefully place the eggs into boiling water. Boil for 7 minutes over medium heat. Boiling for 7 minutes results in a jammy, soft-boiled yolk, offering a wonderfully moist and tender texture. Feel free to adjust the boiling time based on your preferred yolk consistency.
Step 10
After boiling, briefly cool the eggs in cold water, then peel them gently. Place the peeled eggs directly into the bowl with the prepared marinade. Ensure the eggs are submerged in the marinade.
Step 11
The marinated eggs are delicious eaten immediately, but for an even more incredible flavor, refrigerate them for about 2-3 hours to allow the marinade to deepen and permeate the eggs. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator, and enjoy them with rice whenever you desire! They are truly a ‘rice thief’ – a dish that makes you eat way more rice than usual.
