Introducing a fish cake rice bowl recipe with an addictive flavor that you won’t be able to stop eating once you try it. Make it quickly for a satisfying breakfast or a simple meal!
Main Ingredients- 1 sheet of square fish cake (odeng)
- 1/2 onion
Seasoning- 1 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1/2 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1/2 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp sugar
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, peel and wash the onion, then slice it thinly into strips. Rinse the square fish cake under running water to remove any debris, and then cut it into bite-sized pieces (e.g., about 1.5cm wide). Preparing the ingredients in advance like this will make the cooking process much smoother.
Step 2
Heat a little cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and stir-fry until it becomes translucent and releases a sweet aroma. Once the onion is softened, add the prepared fish cake and continue to stir-fry for another minute. Lightly sautéing the fish cake helps to enhance its chewy texture.
Step 3
When the onion and fish cake are nicely stir-fried, add the seasoning ingredients (gochujang, gochugaru, soy sauce, sugar) and 5 tablespoons of water to the pan. Stir-fry quickly over high heat for about 30 seconds. The key is to mix the seasonings evenly into the ingredients, cooking them until they have a glossy finish.
Step 4
Spoon a generous portion of warm rice into a bowl. Top the rice with the delicious, freshly stir-fried fish cake mixture. For an even more satisfying meal, consider adding a fried egg, some shredded seaweed (gim), or sesame seeds on top. This makes for a perfectly hearty meal!
