15-Minute Nutritious Baby Food: A Quick & Healthy Recipe

Inspired by the Rice Museum’s baby food contest, this recipe uses just cooked rice and common fridge ingredients to create a healthy, homemade baby food in only 15 minutes. Perfect for busy parents who want to provide the best nutrition for their little ones!

Recipe Info

  • Category : Rice / Porridge / Rice cake
  • Ingredient Category : Meat
  • Occasion : Baby food
  • Cooking : Boil / Simmer
  • Servings : 3 servings
  • Cooking Time : Within 15 minutes
  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients

  • 1/2 bowl cooked rice
  • 100g prepared duck meat
  • 2 Tbsp finely ground cabbage powder
  • 1/3 fresh potato
  • 1/3 crisp carrot
  • 1/3 sweet onion
  • 1/5 pack enoki mushrooms

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Briefly blanch the duck meat in water to remove excess salt and fat. Finely chop or dice the potato, carrot, and onion into small pieces that will cook through easily. Trim the ends of the enoki mushrooms and chop them finely.

Step 1

Step 2

Place the prepared vegetables and duck meat in a pot. Simmer until all ingredients are tender and well-cooked. It’s important to chop everything very small and cook quickly to minimize nutrient loss and make it easy for your baby to digest. Cook for about 10-15 minutes.

Step 2

Step 3

During cooking, skim off any excess fat that rises to the surface with a spoon. While duck fat is a healthy unsaturated fat, store-bought duck may contain residual salt or additives. Skimming helps protect your baby’s sensitive stomach and prevent potential allergic reactions.

Step 3

Step 4

Once all ingredients are tender and cooked, add the pre-cooked warm rice to the pot and simmer together. Using cooked rice is much faster than cooking raw rice and results in a smoother texture for your baby. If using mixed grains, consider adding a small amount of soft grains like black rice for easier digestion.

Step 4

Step 5

As the rice begins to break down, stir in 2 tablespoons of cabbage powder. Cabbage is rich in Vitamin U, which is excellent for strengthening your baby’s digestive system. However, Vitamin U is heat-sensitive, so minimizing cooking time after adding it is crucial to preserve its benefits.

Step 5

Step 6

Now that everything is tender, use a blender or immersion blender to process the mixture to a smooth consistency suitable for your baby. Because the ingredients were finely chopped before cooking, it will quickly become a smooth, liquid-like food.

Step 6

Step 7

A few short pulses in the blender are all it takes! The rice will break down naturally, creating a wonderfully smooth texture that’s perfect for babies.

Step 7

Step 8

Serve the baby food in a bowl, portioning out what your baby will eat. This recipe yields approximately 3-4 servings for your baby. (Personal note: I ended up sharing some with my baby as part of my diet plan, and it was a million times tastier than chicken breast!)
