Super Simple Solid Curry Recipe: A Foolproof Golden Method
Whip up a Delicious Dinner Using Solid Curry Blocks
Even beginners can master this! Today, I’ll show you how to make restaurant-quality curry at home using convenient solid curry blocks. It’s simple yet creates a rich flavor and aroma, perfect for a delightful meal for the whole family.
Main Ingredients- Solid curry blocks: 8 cubes (approx. 200g, check product packaging)
- Pork shoulder: 300g (cut into curry-sized pieces)
- Onion: 1 medium
- Carrot: 1 medium
- Potato: 1 medium
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the pork by cutting it into bite-sized pieces. Gently pat dry any excess moisture with paper towels. Then, add a pinch of black pepper and 1 Tbsp of mirin, mix well, and let it marinate for about 10 minutes. This step helps tenderize the meat and removes any porky smell.
Step 2
Now, let’s prepare the vegetables that are key to the curry’s flavor! Finely chop or thinly slice the onion. Peel the carrot and potato, then dice them into roughly 2cm cubes. Ensuring similar sizes for all vegetables helps them cook evenly.
Step 3
Heat 3 Tbsp of vegetable oil in a deep pot or wok over medium heat. Add the diced potatoes and sauté for 3-4 minutes until they look slightly translucent on the surface. Sautéing potatoes first helps them hold their shape and prevents them from breaking apart later.
Step 4
Add the carrots to the same pot and continue to sauté for about 2 more minutes. Carrots take slightly longer to cook than potatoes, so cooking them together at this stage is beneficial.
Step 5
Now, add the marinated pork to the pot and stir-fry until the outside is no longer pink. Cooking the pork thoroughly ensures that its juices are locked in, enhancing the overall flavor of the curry.
Step 6
Finally, add the onions and sauté until they become transparent. Sautéing the onions well brings out their natural sweetness, which adds a deeper flavor profile to the curry. Cook them over medium-low heat until softened.
Step 7
Pour in 4 cups (approx. 800ml) of water to the sautéed ingredients, followed by 250ml of milk for added creaminess and richness. You can adjust the amount of water and milk slightly depending on your desired curry consistency.
Step 8
Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat, then reduce to medium-low heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking to the bottom of the pot. Simmer until the vegetables are tender and the sauce has thickened to your liking.
Step 9
Turn off the heat and add the 8 solid curry blocks. Stir well until they are completely dissolved. The residual heat will thicken the curry beautifully. Serve hot over rice for a truly satisfying meal!
