- 1 Tbsp corn syrup or oligodang (using a Korean rice spoon)
- 1 Tbsp vinegar (using a Korean rice spoon)
- 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic (using a Korean rice spoon)
- 2 Tbsp ketchup (using a Korean rice spoon)
- 1 Tbsp sugar (using a Korean rice spoon)
- 1 Tbsp oyster sauce (using a Korean rice spoon)
- 1 Tbsp corn syrup or oligodang (using a Korean rice spoon)
- 1 Tbsp vinegar (using a Korean rice spoon)
- 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic (using a Korean rice spoon)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s make the delicious Gangjeong sauce! Using a Korean rice spoon as a measure, combine 2 Tbsp of ketchup, 1 Tbsp of sugar, 1 Tbsp of oyster sauce, 1 Tbsp of corn syrup/oligodang, 1 Tbsp of vinegar, and 0.5 Tbsp of minced garlic in a small bowl. Stir everything together thoroughly with a spoon until well combined. Your tasty Gangjeong sauce is now ready!
Step 2
Now, let’s prepare the star ingredient: the Vienna sausages. Make 2-3 diagonal slits on the top half of each sausage, cutting towards the bottom but not all the way through. This scoring allows the sauce to penetrate better and also makes them look more appealing.
Step 3
Alternatively, for a cuter look, you can create ‘octopus legs’. Make four cuts from the bottom end of each sausage upwards, creating tentacle-like shapes. This presentation is especially popular with children!
Step 4
Lightly blanch the scored sausages in boiling water. Avoid overcooking; just a quick dip for about 30 seconds to 1 minute is enough to warm them through and maintain their firm texture. Drain them well after blanching.
Step 5
Heat a little cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the blanched sausages and pan-fry them until they are lightly golden brown and slightly crispy on the outside. This step enhances their flavor and texture.
Step 6
Pour all the prepared Gangjeong sauce into the pan with the fried sausages. Reduce the heat to low and stir the sausages gently to coat them evenly with the sauce. Continue to simmer for about 1-2 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and coats the sausages beautifully. Be careful not to let the sauce burn.
Step 7
Finally, finely chop the nuts you have prepared and sprinkle them over the finished Sausage Gangjeong. The crunchy nuts add a wonderful texture and nutty flavor. If you don’t have nuts, a sprinkle of dried parsley can also add a nice touch for presentation. Enjoy your delicious Sausage Gangjeong!
