Main Ingredients

  • 100g Beef (ground or finely chopped)
  • 210g Cooked Rice (warmed)
  • 1/4 Onion (small)
  • 1/2 Scallion (green onion), white and green parts
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 Tbsp Butter (approx. 30g)

Seasoning

  • Pinch of Black Pepper
  • Pinch of Salt
  • 1 Tbsp Cooking Wine (e.g., Mirin)
  • 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce

Cooking Instructions

Prepare the cooked rice. If you’re using leftover cold rice, warm it slightly in the microwave. This helps prevent it from clumping and ensures it fries up nicely.

Finely chop the beef into small pieces, about 0.5 cm (approx. 1/4 inch). If you have ground beef, this step will be much quicker.

In a bowl, combine the chopped beef with a pinch of black pepper, a pinch of salt, 1 Tbsp of cooking wine, and 1 Tbsp of soy sauce. Mix well to marinate the beef. The cooking wine helps to remove any gamey odors and enhances the flavor.

Peel and finely dice the onion into about 0.3 cm (approx. 1/8 inch) pieces. The diced onion will add sweetness as it cooks, enhancing the overall flavor of the fried rice.
