Sausage Rolled Omelet
Perfect for Lunchboxes! Delicious Sausage Rolled Omelet Recipe
A tasty sausage rolled omelet made with simple ingredients! The perfect combination of savory sausage and fluffy egg makes this a favorite side dish for both kids and adults.
Main Ingredients- 2 Sausages (approx. 100g)
- 5 Eggs
- 1 Tbsp Pancake Mix (or flour, tempura powder)
- 1 Tbsp Mirin (or cooking sake)
- 1 Tbsp Tuna Extract (or 1/2 tsp salt)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Crack 5 eggs into a bowl. Beat them well with chopsticks until the chalazae (the white stringy bits) are broken. Whisk until the yolks and whites are evenly combined.
Step 2
Strain the beaten eggs through a sieve. This step removes any remaining chalazae, resulting in a smoother and more tender omelet. Add 1 Tbsp of mirin to eliminate any eggy smell and enhance the flavor. Season with 1 Tbsp of tuna extract for a savory depth, or use 1/2 tsp of salt if unavailable. (Tuna extract adds a wonderful umami flavor.)
Step 3
Pat the prepared sausages dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture. Then, lightly coat the sausages with pancake mix (or flour/tempura powder) on all sides. This coating helps the egg mixture adhere better and ensures the omelet holds its shape beautifully when rolled.
Step 4
Preheat a frying pan over medium heat, then add a little oil and reduce the heat to low. Pour a thin, even layer of the egg mixture into the pan using a ladle, spreading it gently. Cook slowly until the edges begin to set.
Step 5
When about one-third of the egg mixture is cooked and the top is still slightly moist, place the prepared sausage along one edge of the egg. Gently fold the cooked egg over the sausage, and then slowly roll it up from the edge. Be careful not to roll too tightly to prevent the egg from tearing. Roll gently for a neat shape.
Step 6
Continue to add more egg mixture to the pan and roll the omelet as you did before, adding the sausage each time. Maintaining low heat is crucial here to prevent burning and achieve a soft, beautifully colored rolled omelet. Repeat the process until the omelet reaches your desired thickness. Let it cool slightly, then slice into bite-sized pieces for a delicious lunchbox side dish or a delightful addition to any meal!
