Stir-fried Dried Shrimp with Korean Green Peppers
A perfect recipe for those living alone! When you’re too lazy to go out and crave something sweet, spicy, and savory, this stir-fried dish with Korean green peppers and dried shrimp will be your go-to. Enjoy a rich flavor with simple ingredients.
Main Ingredients- 100g dried shrimp
- 5-7 Korean green peppers (kwari gochu)
Seasoning- 2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 stick sugar (approx. 15g)
- 1.5 Tbsp soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 stick sugar (approx. 15g)
- 1.5 Tbsp soy sauce
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the Korean green peppers thoroughly and remove their stems. Use a fork to poke several holes in the surface of each pepper. This allows the seasoning to penetrate deeply, making the dish even more flavorful. (A useful tip when you don’t have toothpicks!)
Step 2
Place the dried shrimp in a sieve and shake gently. This process removes any dust or small debris attached to the shrimp, ensuring a cleaner and tastier stir-fry.
Step 3
Prepare the seasoning mixture in advance for a delicious stir-fry. In a bowl, combine 2 Tbsp soy sauce, 2 Tbsp sugar, minced garlic (equivalent to 2 cloves or 2 Tbsp), and 6 Tbsp water. Stir well until the sugar dissolves. Adding this mixture all at once will simplify the cooking process.
Step 4
Heat a frying pan over medium-low heat. Add the prepared dried shrimp and stir-fry until lightly browned and fragrant, being careful not to burn them. Cooking the shrimp until they release their nutty aroma enhances the flavor.
Step 5
Once the shrimp are lightly stir-fried, add the pre-made seasoning mixture and the prepared Korean green peppers to the pan. Continue to stir-fry together for about 1-2 minutes, allowing the ingredients to meld with the sauce. If you prefer a softer texture for the peppers, add an extra 1-2 Tbsp of water while stir-frying.
