Sweet and Creamy Sweet Pumpkin Porridge
Easy Recipe for Sweet and Smooth Sweet Pumpkin Porridge!
Embrace the autumn season with this delicious homemade sweet pumpkin porridge! I made this using sweet pumpkins that were on sale at a great price because of minor blemishes. Normally, a small pumpkin costs around 2-3,000 won, but I got a generous amount for just 2,000 won! This recipe is simple, nutritious, and perfect for a warm and satisfying meal.
Ingredients- Sweet pumpkin 400g
- Water 350g
- Flour 10g
- Water 20g (for mixing flour)
- Salt (a pinch)
- Sugar (to taste)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Check if the sweet pumpkin is well-cooked by piercing it with a chopstick; it should go in easily. Carefully peel the skin thinly using a knife. If you prefer to eat the skin, wash it thoroughly, remove the seeds, and use it.
Step 2
Place the peeled sweet pumpkin into a blender. Add 350g of water and blend until smooth.
Step 3
Sweet pumpkin can be quite thick, making it difficult to blend all at once. It’s best to add water gradually while blending. If the blender is struggling, stop periodically, add a little more water, and continue blending until you achieve a smooth consistency. Using a spatula to scrape down the sides can help ensure even blending.
Step 4
Observe the finely blended sweet pumpkin. Because it’s thick, it can stick to the bottom of the blender. It’s important to scrape the sides with a spatula during blending to ensure everything is processed smoothly.
Step 5
Now, transfer the well-blended sweet pumpkin to a pot to cook. Sweet pumpkin porridge can bubble up and splatter while cooking, so it’s recommended to use a pot that is tall and spacious. You can also leave the lid slightly ajar for safety.
Step 6
Season the porridge with salt and sugar to your preference. Since sweet pumpkins are naturally sweet, it’s often better to add a little more salt to enhance the sweetness rather than just adding sugar. Taste as you go and adjust the amounts of salt and sugar based on the pumpkin’s sweetness and your personal taste. If you prefer it less sweet, a pinch of salt alone can be sufficient.
Step 7
Traditionally, glutinous rice flour is used to thicken porridge. However, if you don’t have it, you can substitute it with regular flour. Mix 10g of flour with 20g of water until a smooth paste forms, ensuring there are no lumps. Gradually add this flour mixture to the boiling sweet pumpkin porridge while stirring constantly. Adding flour directly to the porridge can cause lumps, so always mix it with water first before adding it to the pot. This step helps create a smooth and uniform texture for your sweet pumpkin porridge.
