Step 1
Start by rinsing the dried fern. Place the dried gosari in a bowl and rinse it two to three times under running water. This step effectively removes any dust or impurities clinging to the dried fern, ensuring a cleaner preparation for the subsequent stages.
Step 2
Now, it’s time to rehydrate the dried fern. After rinsing, submerge the gosari in plenty of water and let it soak for at least 2 hours. Allow the fern to absorb sufficient moisture until it becomes tender. Changing the water a few times during soaking will yield even better results, as it helps to further soften the fern and remove any residual bitterness.
Step 3
Proceed to the boiling process. Place the soaked fern in a pot and add enough water to cover it completely. Also, add 1 tablespoon of salt. Bring the water to a rolling boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium and cook for 10 minutes. Then, lower the heat to medium-low and continue to boil for another 20 minutes. Boiling for a total of 30 minutes helps to tenderize the tough texture of the fern and effectively removes any remaining toxins.

After boiling for 30 minutes, do not rinse the fern immediately. Instead, turn off the heat, cover the pot with a lid, and let the fern steam for 1 hour. This steaming process is crucial! As the fern steams, it will become even more tender internally, and any water-soluble toxins will have ample time to dissipate.
