  • Onion 1/4
  • Carrot 1/4
  • Spinach a handful
  • Cabbage a handful
  • Green onion 1/4 stalk
  • Soy sauce 1 Tbsp (approx. 15ml)
  • Oyster sauce 1 Tbsp (approx. 15ml)
  • Sesame oil 1 tsp (approx. 5ml)
  • Sesame seeds 1 tsp
  • Pepper powder a pinch
  • Egg 1 (optional, a soft-boiled or fried egg yolk is recommended)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare all the vegetables for your rice bowl. Wash the mushrooms, onion, carrot, and cabbage thoroughly, then julienne them into bite-sized strips. Wash the spinach as well. Feel free to use any other vegetables you have on hand, like bok choy or bean sprouts, to make it even more abundant!

Step 1

Step 2

Prepare 100g of ground pork, the star of our dish. Using fresh ground pork will result in a more flavorful bowl.

Step 2

Step 3

Heat a pan over medium-high heat and add a little cooking oil. Add the ground pork and chopped green onions, and begin to stir-fry. The fragrant aroma of the green onions will blend beautifully with the pork, enhancing the overall flavor.

Step 3

Step 4

Sprinkle some pepper powder over the pork to season it. This helps to eliminate any gamey smell and adds a subtle kick. Break up any clumps of pork as you stir-fry to ensure even cooking.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the pork is about 80% cooked, add all the julienned vegetables to the pan and stir-fry them together. Cooking over high heat ensures the vegetables remain crisp and retain their vibrant color.

Step 5

Step 6

Stir-fry the vegetables just until they begin to wilt slightly. Avoid overcooking, as this will diminish their fresh flavor and crunchy texture. The key is to keep them slightly crisp!

Step 6

Step 7

While the pan is still hot, pour 1 tablespoon of soy sauce around the edges of the pan. This technique allows the soy sauce to caramelize slightly on contact with the hot pan, imparting a wonderful ‘wok hei’ or smoky flavor, similar to what you’d find in professional kitchens.

Step 7

Step 8

Add 100cc of water (about half a standard teacup). This helps to prevent the sauce from burning and ensures it coats the ingredients evenly.

Step 8

Step 9

Add 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce for an extra layer of umami. Oyster sauce will significantly enhance the flavors of both the pork and vegetables.

Step 9

Step 10

Finally, drizzle in 1 teaspoon of sesame oil for a toasty, nutty aroma.

Step 10

Step 11

Sprinkle with 1 teaspoon of sesame seeds to finish. Let the sauce simmer slightly until it thickens a bit, but don’t reduce it too much – you want a little bit of sauce left to pour over the rice. Turn off the heat once it reaches your desired consistency.

Step 11

Step 12

Prepare a bowl with 1 serving of warm cooked rice. Neatly arrange the stir-fried pork and mixed vegetables on top of the rice. Let some of the sauce drip down over the rice for a more appealing presentation.

Step 12

Step 13

Don’t forget to spoon some of the delicious sauce from the pan over the rice and ingredients. This will make every bite moist and flavorful.

Step 13

Step 14

For an extra touch of richness and creaminess, gently place a single egg yolk on top of the rice bowl. Breaking the yolk and mixing it in will create a wonderfully smooth and decadent sauce.

Step 14

Step 15

Finally, sprinkle a little parsley flakes on top for a pop of color, transforming your quick dish into an impressive meal. Enjoy your hearty and delicious pork and vegetable rice bowl, made in just 10 minutes!
