How to Make Delicious Yellow Gardenia Radish Salad (Authentic Recipe)
This vibrant yellow radish pickle salad pairs perfectly with any Korean meal, especially ‘bunsik’ (Korean snack foods). It’s delightfully crunchy, sweet, and tangy with a tempting aroma of sesame oil, making it an excellent side dish. This incredibly simple recipe can be prepared in just 5 minutes!
Main Ingredients- Gardenia Radish Pickles 200g
- Scallion 1/2 stalk
Seasoning- Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes) 1 Tbsp
- Sesame Oil 1 Tbsp
- Sesame Seeds 1 tsp
- Minced Garlic 0.5 Tbsp
- Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes) 1 Tbsp
- Sesame Oil 1 Tbsp
- Sesame Seeds 1 tsp
- Minced Garlic 0.5 Tbsp
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the scallions. Cut the half stalk of scallion lengthwise into two halves. Then, stack the halved scallions on top of each other and cut them lengthwise again. This helps to evenly distribute the white and green parts of the scallion.
Step 2
Now, finely mince the lengthwise-cut scallions. Mincing them finely will ensure their fragrant flavor infuses well into the seasoning and adds a pleasant texture when mixed with the radish pickles.
Step 3
It’s time to start mixing the salad. Place the 200g of gardenia radish pickles into a mixing bowl. If your pickles are large, it’s a good idea to cut them into bite-sized pieces. Add the 2 tablespoons of finely minced scallions to the bowl. The fresh aroma of scallions will enhance the overall taste.
Step 4
Next, add 0.5 tablespoon of minced garlic. The mild pungency and aroma of garlic will balance the tanginess of the radish pickles and add depth of flavor. Be careful not to add too much garlic, as it can make the dish too spicy; 0.5 tablespoon is usually the right amount.
Step 5
Now, add 1 tablespoon of gochugaru (Korean chili flakes). Gently mix and massage the ingredients together with your hands. This step is about evenly coating the radish pickles with the chili flakes to give them a beautiful color. Be gentle while mixing to avoid breaking down the pickles too much.
Step 6
Finally, add 1 tablespoon of sesame oil and 1 teaspoon of roasted sesame seeds. Mix gently one more time. The nutty aroma of sesame oil and the delightful crunch of sesame seeds will elevate the dish. Using roasted sesame seeds will provide a richer flavor than raw ones.
Step 7
Your delicious Gardenia Radish Pickle Salad is ready! This flavorful and crunchy side dish is perfect to enjoy with a bowl of warm rice, a hearty soup, or your favorite ‘bunsik’ dishes. Its sweet, tangy, and refreshing taste is sure to whet your appetite!
