Super Simple Canned Whelk Salad (Golbaengi Muchim)
Semi-Cooking: 5-Minute Meal! Golbaengi Muchim for Absolute Beginners!
Even if you’ve never cooked before, you should be able to whip up a quick snack or a side dish, right? That’s where ‘Semi-Cooking’ comes in! Semi-Cooking is all about using pre-made products and combining them smartly. What ingredients do you buy and how do you combine them? Let’s find out!
Ingredients- 1 can (225g) Canned Whelks
- 1/2 pack Salad greens
- 1.5 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 0.5 Tbsp Toasted sesame seeds
- 1 tsp Sesame oil
- 1 tsp Cooking wine (Cheongju or Mirin)
- 2 Pinches Salt
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
The Ricotta Salad sold at Costco is convenient for this recipe. It comes in packs of 3 for $9,900, includes dressing, and the salad greens are pre-washed, so you can use them straight from the package. Just have one pack of salad greens ready.
Step 2
Canned whelks can sometimes have a slightly fishy taste. Using grilled whelks can reduce this. For this recipe, drain the canned whelks thoroughly using a sieve. This helps maintain their chewy texture while minimizing any unpleasant odor.
Step 3
Commercially available Gochujang (Korean chili paste) already has a well-balanced blend of sour, sweet, and spicy flavors that appeals to most palates. It’s a convenient choice that requires no additional seasoning.
Step 4
In a bowl with the salad greens, add the drained whelks, Gochujang, cooking wine, sesame oil, and toasted sesame seeds. Everything is in! Simply mix it all together, and your delicious Golbaengi Muchim is ready.
Step 5
Serve the finished Golbaengi Muchim on a plate for an impressive appetizer or side dish. If you desire more spice, add a pinch of red pepper flakes. For a hint of garlic, a little minced garlic can be added. Of course, feel free to skip these additions if they’re not to your taste. Adjust to your preference!
Step 6
I became interested in Semi-Cooking because it’s so useful for busy days. I was particularly captivated by the cooking style of American Semi-Homemade chef Sandra Lee, and I even own 4 of her 12 cookbooks.
Step 7
These books, purchased for $20 each, are each about 235 pages long. I wonder if there are others who love books like these besides me…
