Super Easy Homemade Inari Sushi: Perfect for Kids’ Snacks!
Today, I’m excited to share a recipe for Inari Sushi, a delightful and nutritious snack that’s incredibly easy to make at home. 🙂 It’s perfect for kids and packed with flavor and goodness!
Ingredients- Store-bought Inari Sushi Kit (includes seasoned rice mix and topping) – 1 pack
- Cooked Brown Rice or White Rice – 1.5 bowls (warm)
- Carrot – 1/3 medium (approx. 30g)
- Bell Pepper (red or yellow) – 1/2 medium (approx. 25g)
- Salt – 1 pinch (for seasoning rice)
- Toasted Sesame Seeds – a little (for garnish)
- Sesame Oil – 1/2 Tbsp (for mixing rice)
- Cooking Oil – a little (for sautéing vegetables)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the carrot and bell pepper which will add vibrant color to your Inari Sushi. Wash them thoroughly, pat them dry, and then finely dice them. Smaller pieces blend better with the rice and are easier for children to eat.
Step 2
Carefully press the fried tofu pouches (aburaage) from the Inari Sushi kit with your hands to gently squeeze out excess liquid, being careful not to tear them. Squeeze them gently to maintain their shape; applying too much force can cause them to rip.
Step 3
Lightly coat a heated pan with cooking oil over medium-low heat. Add the finely diced carrots and sauté them for about 1-2 minutes until they soften slightly and their natural sweetness begins to release.
Step 4
Once the carrots are partially cooked, add the diced bell pepper to the pan and stir-fry them together briefly. Bell peppers cook quickly, so sauté for about 30 seconds to 1 minute, just enough to retain their bright color. Overcooking can make them mushy.
Step 5
Season the sautéed vegetables with just a tiny pinch of salt and mix well. This step adds a subtle sweetness and a pleasant flavor depth to the sushi rice.
Step 6
Now, prepare the rice. Place about 1.5 bowls of freshly cooked warm rice into a large mixing bowl. Drizzle the seasoned rice vinegar mix (included in the Inari Sushi kit) evenly over the rice. Mixing while the rice is warm helps the seasoning absorb beautifully.
Step 7
Gently mix the rice with the seasoning using a spatula until well combined. Sprinkle a little toasted sesame seeds over the rice for a nutty aroma, and finally, drizzle in 1/2 Tbsp of sesame oil for extra flavor. Mix everything gently so the ingredients are evenly distributed.
Step 8
Sprinkle the included topping from the Inari Sushi kit (such as broccoli and walnut stir-fry, or other desired toppings) over the seasoned rice. This topping will add texture and enhance the overall flavor. You can gently mix it into the rice if you like.
Step 9
Carefully fill the seasoned tofu pouches with the prepared sushi rice. Don’t overfill them; aim to fill about 80-90% of each pouch to prevent them from bursting. And there you have it – delicious and simple Inari Sushi made with care! It’s also a fun activity to make with your children.
