Hamburg Steak Mixture Ingredients- 400g Onion (finely minced)
- 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 1 Tbsp Salt
- 50g Butter
- 2 Tbsp Cooking Oil
- 900g Ground Pork + Ground Beef (ratio adjustable to your preference)
- 3 Eggs (room temperature)
- 150g Breadcrumbs
- A pinch of Black Pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the caramelized onions that add rich flavor to the hamburg steak. Finely mince 400g of onion. Heat 50g of butter and 2 Tbsp of cooking oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the minced onion and slowly sauté for about 20 minutes until caramelized. It’s important to cook until the onions turn translucent and release a sweet aroma. Once done, let the caramelized onions cool completely.
Step 2
Now, it’s time to make the hamburg steak mixture. In a bowl, combine 900g of ground pork and ground beef. Add the cooled caramelized onions, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, 1 Tbsp salt, a pinch of black pepper, and 3 cracked eggs. Also, add 150g of breadcrumbs.
Step 3
Mix the ingredients thoroughly by kneading in one direction. Kneading vigorously for about 5-10 minutes will make the mixture springy and sticky, ensuring the patties hold their shape well during cooking and don’t fall apart. Knead until a cohesive texture is achieved.
Step 4
Take portions of the mixture and shape them into round, flattened hamburg steaks. Aim for a size that fits your palm, not too thick, so they cook evenly all the way through. To prevent the mixture from sticking to your hands, you can lightly wet them with water or apply a little oil while shaping.
Step 5
Freeze the hamburg steaks you won’t be eating today. Wrap each patty individually with plastic wrap or place them in airtight containers before freezing. This way, you’ll have a convenient emergency meal ready to be thawed and cooked anytime.
Step 6
Let’s cook the hamburg steaks! Preheat a pan over medium heat and add a little cooking oil. Place the hamburg steaks in the pan and sear for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown. Once nicely browned on the outside, add about 1/2 cup (100ml) of water, cover the pan immediately, and reduce the heat to low. Let them steam and cook through until tender and juicy, about 8-10 minutes.
Step 7
Once the hamburg steaks are cooked, remove them to a plate temporarily. Now, let’s make the sauce in the same pan. Utilize the pan drippings and seasoning. Add 60g of Worcestershire sauce and 2 Tbsp of ketchup, stirring well. Simmer gently until slightly thickened to create a delicious hamburg steak sauce.
Step 8
Generously pour the delicious sauce over the warm, freshly cooked hamburg steaks. Serve with rice, salad, mashed potatoes, or your favorite side dishes for a hearty meal. Doesn’t this homemade hamburg steak look incredibly delicious? Enjoy your meal!
