How to Make Seafood Fried Rice with Squid and Shrimp – A Veggie-Packed Fried Rice Recipe
Packed with fresh seafood and crisp vegetables! Easily make a satisfying seafood fried rice at home that will be ready in a flash. This nutritious fried rice is loved by both kids and adults.
Main Ingredients- 1 Squid (cleaned and cut into bite-sized pieces)
- 10 Cocktail Shrimp (peeled and deveined)
- 2 bowls of Rice (warm cooked rice)
- 1 Bell Pepper (seeds removed and finely diced)
- 1 Green Bell Pepper (seeds removed and finely diced)
- 1/2 Onion (finely diced)
- 1/2 Carrot (finely diced)
- 4 cloves Garlic (thinly sliced)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, in a bowl, combine the prepared cocktail shrimp and squid with 2 tablespoons of cooking wine. Gently mix to marinate. This step helps remove any fishy odors and enhances the flavor. Let it marinate for about 5-10 minutes.
Step 2
Next, prepare the vegetables. Thinly slice the garlic. Remove the seeds from the bell peppers and green bell pepper, then finely dice all the vegetables (bell peppers, green bell pepper, onion, and carrot) into small, uniform pieces. Dicing the vegetables small will help them blend well with the rice for a more harmonious flavor.
Step 3
Heat a pan over medium heat and melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Once the butter is melted, add the sliced garlic and sauté gently over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally to prevent burning. Cook until the garlic is golden brown and fragrant, which will infuse the dish with a wonderful aroma.
Step 4
As soon as you can smell the garlic, add the prepared vegetables to the pan. Stir-fry them. Since vegetables have different cooking times, add the carrots first as they are harder, followed by the onion, green bell pepper, and regular bell pepper. It’s best to stir-fry over medium-high heat to maintain the vegetables’ crisp texture.
Step 5
Once the vegetables are partially cooked, add the marinated shrimp and squid to the pan and stir-fry together. Seafood can become tough if overcooked, so sauté quickly just until the colors change. The shrimp should turn pink and the squid should become opaque.
Step 6
When the seafood is cooked, add 2 tablespoons of oyster sauce and stir-fry for about 1 minute, ensuring it mixes well with all the ingredients. Oyster sauce adds a savory depth, significantly enhancing the fried rice’s overall flavor.
Step 7
Now, add 2 bowls of warm cooked rice to the pan. Use a spatula to break up any clumps of rice and stir-fry until the rice is evenly coated with the sauce. Cooking over medium-high heat will help create fluffy, separate grains of rice.
Step 8
Finally, drizzle in 1 tablespoon of sesame oil and give everything one last toss. Your delicious seafood fried rice is ready! Serve immediately while hot for the best taste. You can also sprinkle with seaweed flakes or sesame seeds according to your preference.
