Savory Stir-Fried Fish Cakes with Sweet Onions
Super Simple Stir-Fried Fish Cakes with Onions
I love the crunchy texture of the onions in this dish!
Ingredients- 2 sheets of flat fish cakes
- 1 medium onion
Seasoning- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp cooking oil
- 3 Tbsp water
- 1/2 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- A pinch of sesame seeds
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp cooking oil
- 3 Tbsp water
- 1/2 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- A pinch of sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the fish cakes and the onion. You can rinse the fish cakes under water for a cleaner taste.
Step 2
Cut the fish cakes into bite-sized pieces. Slice the onion into strips. For a nice crunch, don’t slice the onion too thinly.
Step 3
Heat a pan over medium-high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of soy sauce and 2 tablespoons of cooking oil. Stir-fry briefly to bring out the fragrance of the seasonings.
Step 4
Add the sliced onions to the pan first and stir-fry over medium heat. Once the onions start to turn translucent, add 3 tablespoons of water and stir-fry for a little longer. Since the fish cakes are already seasoned, the goal here is to lightly season the onions.
Step 5
When the onions become tender and start to release their sweetness, add the prepared fish cakes and stir-fry quickly, about 1 minute, until they absorb the sauce. Be careful not to overcook, as the fish cakes can become tough.
Step 6
Turn off the heat. Add 1/2 tablespoon of gochugaru (Korean chili flakes) and mix well. Adding gochugaru at the end prevents it from burning and adds a clean, spicy flavor without a raw taste. This method ensures the chili flakes blend in beautifully without a harsh smell.
Step 7
Finally, sprinkle with a pinch of sesame seeds for added nuttiness. Your delicious stir-fried fish cakes with onions are now ready to be enjoyed with a bowl of hot rice!
