Easy Recipe for Making Hard-Boiled Eggs with an Electric Rice Cooker
If you’ve hesitated to make hard-boiled eggs at home for fear of damaging your rice cooker’s inner pot, this recipe is for you! We’ll show you how to use an old electric rice cooker to make delicious, chewy, yet tender hard-boiled eggs. Enjoy this simple and convenient way to make a popular snack!
Main Ingredients- 14 eggs
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup water (approx. 200ml)
- 1 tsp vinegar
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, take the eggs out of the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for about 1 hour. This helps equalize the temperature between the eggs and the inside of the rice cooker, which prevents the eggs from cracking during cooking.
Step 2
Once the eggs are at room temperature, it’s time to wash them thoroughly. Add about 1 teaspoon of vinegar to a bowl of water, soak the eggs for 1-2 minutes, then gently scrub them with a soft brush or a clean cloth to remove any dirt and impurities from the shells.
Step 3
Pour 1 cup (about 200ml) of water into the inner pot of the rice cooker, enough to cover the eggs. Dissolve about 1/2 teaspoon of salt in the water. The salt water helps to strengthen the eggshells, further preventing cracks, and also enhances the flavor of the eggs.
Step 4
Carefully place the washed eggs into the salt water in the rice cooker pot. Be gentle to avoid the eggs bumping into each other. It’s also a good idea to check your rice cooker’s maximum water level line and adjust the number of eggs if necessary.
Step 5
Close the lid and select the ‘Cook’ or ‘Rice’ setting on your electric rice cooker. This process is similar to cooking regular rice, and most rice cookers will take about 40 minutes to complete the cycle. Check your specific model for exact settings.
Step 6
After the cooking cycle is complete, let the steam escape from the rice cooker before carefully removing the eggs. Be cautious of the hot steam and the heat. The eggs will be very hot, so allow them to cool sufficiently before attempting to peel them to avoid burns. (Note: In this instance, two eggs cracked, so be careful when removing them – they are extremely hot!)
