Hello everyone! Today, we’re making French toast served with caramelized bananas. Having this for brunch really lifted my spirits and made the meal feel special. It’s a delightful way to start your day!
Ingredients- 1 Banana
- 1 slice Thick bread (like brioche or challah)
- 1 Egg
- 30 ml Milk
- 1 Tbsp Butter (approx. 15g)
- 1 pinch Salt
- 1 tsp Sugar
- Honey to taste
- Ricotta cheese to taste
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the star ingredient: the banana! Peel one banana and slice it into 4 equal pieces. Aim for about 1.5 cm thickness; if they’re too thin, they might break apart when cooking.

In a shallow bowl or wide dish, pour in 30ml of milk. Add a pinch of salt and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Crack in one egg and whisk everything together gently until well combined. Make sure the salt and sugar dissolve completely.

Whisk the egg mixture thoroughly to ensure the sugar and salt are fully dissolved and there are no streaks of egg white. Whisking well incorporates a little air, which helps make the French toast fluffy.

Now, dip your slice of bread into the egg mixture. Let it soak for about 30 seconds to 1 minute per side, ensuring it’s well saturated. The bread should feel soft and heavy with the custard. For deeper flavor (pro tip!), you can cover the soaked bread with plastic wrap and let it rest in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or even overnight.

Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat. Place the banana slices in the dry pan and cook them until they are nicely golden brown on both sides. Cooking them slowly over low heat prevents burning and ensures they soften nicely.

While the bananas are caramelizing, add 1 tablespoon of butter to the pan you’ll use for the French toast. Let the butter melt evenly, coating the bottom of the pan. The butter will add a wonderful richness and aroma.

Once the French toast is perfectly golden, arrange the caramelized banana slices on top. Drizzle generously with honey according to your sweetness preference.
