Enjoy Chuncheon’s Signature Soy Sauce Dakgalbi at Home with a Meal Kit

Soy Sauce Dakgalbi

Hello everyone! Today, we’re bringing the famous Chuncheon Dakgalbi right into our homes. Dakgalbi, a beloved dish from Chuncheon, began gaining popularity around 1968 when its dedicated alleyways formed, and by the 1980s, restaurants specializing in it had sprung up. It’s no exaggeration to say that Chuncheon and Dakgalbi are now synonymous! I recently received a Chuncheon Soy Sauce Dakgalbi meal kit via delivery and had a wonderfully simple yet delicious time preparing it at home. This meal kit makes it incredibly easy to recreate the authentic taste. Let’s get started!

Main Ingredients

  • Chuncheon Soy Sauce Dakgalbi Meal Kit 500g (main component)
  • 1 Sweet Potato (size can vary)
  • 300g Cabbage (cut into large pieces)
  • 2 handfuls of Perilla Leaves, julienned (washed)
  • 1/2 handful of Seaweed Flakes (for garnish)
  • 1/4 Onion (julienned)
  • 1 handful of Carrot, julienned
  • 3 Tbsp Soy Sauce Seasoning (included in kit)
  • 100g Mozzarella Cheese (adjust to taste)
  • 1 bowl of cooked Rice (for the finishing fried rice)
  • A pinch of Sesame Seeds (for garnish)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the Chuncheon Soy Sauce Dakgalbi from the meal kit by cutting it into bite-sized pieces. If the pieces are large, cutting them makes cooking and eating much more convenient.

Step 1

Step 2

Julienne the additional vegetables you’ve prepared: perilla leaves, carrots, and onions. Wash them thoroughly before cutting. Using plenty of perilla leaves will add a wonderful aroma.

Step 2

Step 3

Get a large pan or a traditional Korean griddle ready. Lightly coat the pan by dipping a paper towel in cooking oil and wiping it across the surface; this prevents sticking and ensures even cooking. Once the pan is warm, add the cabbage, sweet potato, carrots, onions, and the dakgalbi. Begin to stir-fry.

Step 3

Step 4

As the ingredients start to cook, add the delicious soy sauce seasoning included in the meal kit (about 3 tablespoons). Continue stir-frying, mixing well with a spatula to ensure the sauce evenly coats everything.

Step 4

Step 5

Pay attention to the heat when cooking the sweet potatoes to ensure they cook through completely. Start with high heat, but once the sweet potatoes begin to soften, reduce the heat to medium or low. Cooking them slowly will prevent burning and result in a tender texture.

Step 5

Step 6

When the dakgalbi is almost fully cooked, sprinkle the mozzarella cheese evenly over the top. The melting cheese will add a rich, creamy flavor.

Step 6

Step 7

Finally, add a bowl of cooked rice to any remaining sauce and stir-fry quickly to create a delicious dakgalbi fried rice. Top generously with the julienned perilla leaves and seaweed flakes for a visually appealing and flavorful finish.

Step 7

Step 8

A tip for preserving the fresh aroma of perilla leaves is to add them at the very end without overcooking. Simply mixing them into the hot fried rice is perfect.

Step 8

Step 9

The combination of the fresh perilla leaves and the savory seaweed flakes creates a truly delightful dakgalbi experience. Enjoy this taste of Chuncheon easily at home!
