  • Occasion : Everyday
  • Cooking : Braise
  • Servings : 1 serving

  • Difficulty : Anyone

Main Ingredients

  • 1/2 block firm tofu (approx. 150-200g)
  • 2-3 Tbsp cooking oil (for frying tofu)

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1/2 Tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp water
  • 1 Tbsp corn syrup (or rice syrup/oligo syrup)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Cut the 1/2 block of tofu into bite-sized pieces, about 1.5-2cm thick. After slicing, place the tofu on paper towels and gently press for about 5 minutes to remove excess moisture. This step helps prevent oil splattering when frying and results in a crispier finish.

Step 1

Step 2

While the tofu is draining, let’s prepare the delicious sauce! In a small bowl, combine 1/2 Tbsp oyster sauce, 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic, 1 Tbsp water, and 1 Tbsp corn syrup. Whisk until well combined and the sweetener is dissolved. (You can substitute corn syrup with other syrups like rice syrup or oligo syrup).

Step 2

Step 3

Heat 2-3 tablespoons of cooking oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the drained tofu slices into the pan. Fry the tofu on both sides until golden brown and slightly crispy. Frying it slowly over medium heat until a nice golden color develops will significantly improve the texture.

Step 3

Step 4

Once both sides of the tofu are nicely browned, push the tofu to one side of the pan and pour the prepared sauce into the empty space. Let the sauce simmer for a moment, then gently flip the tofu pieces to coat them evenly in the sauce. Continue to simmer over medium-low heat for 2-3 minutes, allowing the tofu to absorb the flavors. Flip occasionally to ensure even coating. Your delicious braised tofu is ready to be served! Enjoy it with a warm bowl of rice.
