How to Make a Delicious Crab Stick and Cheddar Cheese Rolled Omelet
Today, I made a special rolled omelet with crab sticks and cheese. The flavors blended so well that it turned out to be a perfect side dish. This recipe offers a delightful combination of savory crab and rich cheese within a tender egg wrap, making it an excellent addition to any meal or a great option for lunchboxes.
Ingredients- 3 fresh eggs
- 3 imitation crab sticks (surimi)
- 1 slice cheddar cheese
- 2 pinches salt
- 1 Tbsp milk
- Vegetable oil, as needed
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Start by cracking 3 fresh eggs into a bowl. Add about 2 pinches of salt to lightly season. Whisk gently with a spatula or chopsticks until just combined; avoid over-whisking, as this can make the omelet less tender. The goal is to break the yolks and mix them with the whites without creating too much foam.
Step 2
Next, add 1 tablespoon of milk to the egg mixture. Milk helps to make the omelet softer, more moist, and can also reduce any eggy smell. Stir gently until the milk is fully incorporated into the eggs.
Step 3
Now, it’s time to cook the omelet. Lightly grease a non-stick pan over medium-low heat with vegetable oil. You don’t need a lot of oil; just enough to prevent sticking. Pour the entire egg mixture into the pan, spreading it evenly. Keep the heat at medium-low so the egg cooks gently and evenly. As the edges begin to set, you can gently stir the uncooked egg toward the center, allowing the liquid to flow underneath and cook.
Step 4
When the egg is about halfway cooked, and the surface is still slightly wet, arrange the 3 imitation crab sticks over the egg. You can either leave them whole or tear them into smaller pieces if you prefer. Adding the filling before the egg is fully cooked helps it to adhere better and results in a neater roll.
Step 5
Once the edges of the egg start to firm up, begin to roll it up, similar to making sushi. Using chopsticks or a spatula, carefully lift one edge of the cooked egg and roll it towards the center. Be gentle to avoid tearing the egg. Once rolled, push the omelet to one side of the pan, pour any remaining uncooked egg mixture into the empty space, and continue to cook and roll the omelet, incorporating the new egg layer as you go.
Step 6
After the omelet has taken some shape, prepare the cheddar cheese. Cut 1 slice of cheddar cheese in half lengthwise, or into three long strips, to make it easier to roll into the omelet.
Step 7
Place the prepared cheddar cheese strips over the rolled omelet. Gently roll the omelet again to enclose the cheese. As the cheese melts inside, it will add a wonderfully creamy and savory flavor to the omelet.
Step 8
Now, cook the rolled omelet until it’s golden brown on all sides. Continue to cook over medium-low heat, turning the omelet frequently to ensure even browning and that the cheese inside melts completely. Keep an eye on the heat to prevent burning.
Step 9
Once cooked, remove the rolled omelet from the pan and let it cool slightly. This prevents it from falling apart when cut. After it has cooled down a bit, slice it into bite-sized pieces, about 1.5 to 2 cm thick, like slicing a log. Dipping your knife in water can help achieve cleaner cuts.
Step 10
And there you have it! A delicious crab stick and cheddar cheese rolled omelet is ready. It’s golden on the outside, tender on the inside, with a fantastic blend of crab stick and melted cheese. Enjoy this special treat!
