Healthy & Quick Meal: Cabbage Tuna Fried Rice Recipe for a Light Diet
Perfect for a busy morning or a light meal, this Cabbage Tuna Fried Rice is incredibly easy to make from start to finish. If you’re pondering what to cook for a refreshing meal, give this recipe a try! It’s simple, satisfying, and packed with flavor.
Ingredients- Cabbage, 400g
- Canned Tuna, 200g (drained)
- Green Onion, 1 stalk
- Cooked Rice, 3 bowls (preferably day-old)
- Vinegar, 1 Tbsp (for washing cabbage)
- Cooking Oil, about 1-2 Tbsp
- Soy Sauce, 2 Tbsp
- Oyster Sauce, 1 Tbsp
- Toasted Sesame Seeds, 1 Tbsp (for garnish)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Start by preparing the cabbage. Wash 400g of fresh cabbage thoroughly and then thinly shred it. Shredding it thinly will help it cook evenly and blend well with the rice.
Step 2
To ensure the cabbage is clean and free from any residual pesticides, fill a bowl with 1 cup of water and dissolve 1 Tbsp of vinegar. Soak the shredded cabbage in this vinegar solution for 10 minutes. This step helps to clean the vegetables effectively.
Step 3
After 10 minutes, rinse the cabbage under cold running water several times. Once rinsed, drain it well in a colander, shaking off excess water, or gently pat it dry with paper towels. Removing as much moisture as possible will prevent the fried rice from becoming soggy.
Step 4
Finely chop 1 stalk of green onion. For the canned tuna, drain the oil thoroughly using a fork or by pressing it against the side of the can. Properly draining the tuna is key to avoiding a greasy fried rice.
Step 5
Now, let’s get cooking! Heat about 1-2 Tbsp of cooking oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the chopped green onions and sauté them until they are fragrant and slightly softened, creating a flavorful ‘green onion oil’.
Step 6
Once the green onion oil is aromatic, add the drained shredded cabbage to the pan. Stir-fry over medium heat until the cabbage wilts and softens. Cook it to your desired tenderness; a shorter cooking time will retain some crunch, while a longer time will make it softer.
Step 7
When the cabbage is cooked to your liking, add 3 bowls of cooked rice, 2 Tbsp of soy sauce, and 1 Tbsp of oyster sauce. Use a spatula to break up any clumps of rice and stir everything together until well combined and evenly coated.
Step 8
Finally, add the drained canned tuna to the pan. Gently stir-fry just until the tuna is heated through and mixed with the rice and cabbage. Avoid overcooking the tuna, as it can become dry. Sprinkle in 1 Tbsp of toasted sesame seeds and give it a final quick toss to finish.
Step 9
And there you have it! A delicious and healthy Cabbage Tuna Fried Rice, complete with the satisfying crunch of cabbage and the savory taste of tuna. This dish is a perfect, fuss-free meal for breakfast or a light, nutritious option for any time of day. Enjoy!
