Main Ingredients

  • 700g Fresh Red Scallops
  • 1/2 Red Bell Pepper
  • 1/2 cup Mirin (Rice Wine)
  • 1 bag Pizza Cheese (approx. 100g)
  • 1 bag Shredded Cheese (approx. 100g)
  • A little fresh Parsley

Special Garlic Butter Sauce

  • 3 Tbsp Minced Garlic
  • 1/2 Onion
  • 4 Tbsp Mayonnaise
  • 4 Tbsp Butter
  • 2 Tbsp Honey
  • A pinch of Black Pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Rinse the red scallops gently in saltwater. Scrub the shells clean with a soft brush to remove any dirt or impurities. This step helps to eliminate any off-flavors and ensures a clean taste.

Step 1

Step 2

Fill a steamer pot with water and bring it to a boil over high heat until steam is rising vigorously.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the steamer is producing ample steam, carefully place the cleaned scallops inside. Drizzle about half a cup of mirin (rice wine) over the scallops. Cover and steam for an additional 5 minutes. The mirin will help to remove any fishy odors and enhance the scallops’ natural sweetness.

Step 3

Step 4

Carefully remove the top shell from each steamed scallop. This makes it easier for the sauce to coat the scallop meat and simplifies serving. If a shell doesn’t open naturally, gently pry it open.

Step 4

Step 5

Finely dice the onion for the sauce and the red bell pepper for color and garnish. Aim for small, uniform pieces.

Step 5

Step 6

Finely chop the fresh parsley for a final garnish. The fresh, aromatic parsley will add a lovely finishing touch to the dish.

Step 6

Step 7

Melt half of the butter (2 tablespoons) in a small pan over low heat. Add the minced garlic and diced onion. Sauté gently, stirring constantly, until the aromatics turn golden brown and fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.

Step 7

Step 8

Transfer the sautéed garlic and onion mixture to a bowl. Add the remaining butter (2 tablespoons), honey, mayonnaise, and a pinch of black pepper. Mix everything together thoroughly to create a rich and flavorful garlic butter sauce. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary, adding more honey for sweetness or pepper for a kick.

Step 8

Step 9

Arrange the prepared scallop shells, meat-side up, on an oven-safe baking sheet or in an air fryer basket. Spoon a generous dollop of the garlic butter sauce onto each scallop. Ensure you don’t overload them, so the sauce stays in place.

Step 9

Step 10

Sprinkle both pizza cheese and shredded cheese generously over the sauce-covered scallops. Scatter the diced red bell pepper on top for a splash of color. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) or in an air fryer for 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden brown, and the scallops are cooked through. Cooking times may vary slightly depending on your oven or air fryer.

Step 10

Step 11

Once baked to perfection, carefully transfer the Garlic Butter Baked Scallops to a serving platter. Sprinkle the finely chopped fresh parsley over the top for a final touch of freshness and visual appeal. Serve immediately and enjoy this delightful culinary creation!
