Ingredients for Spicy Yeontan Bulgogi Kimbap- 4 sheets of Gim (seaweed for kimbap)
- 4 bowls of cooked rice
- A pinch of salt (for seasoning rice)
- A little sesame oil (for seasoning rice and finishing)
- 400g Yeontan Bulgogi (spicy grilled meat)
- 8 fresh Perilla leaves
- 4 Korean cucumbers (Oi-gohchu)
- A sprinkle of sesame seeds (for garnish)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the star ingredient: the Spicy Yeontan Bulgogi. Place the 400g of Yeontan Bulgogi in a frying pan and stir-fry over high heat. Be careful not to burn the sauce, and cook until the meat is fully cooked and fragrant. (Tip: If the bulgogi sauce is too salty, you can add a little water to adjust the flavor.)
Step 2
Your delicious Spicy Yeontan Bulgogi is now ready! It’s all set to become the filling for your kimbap.
Step 3
Now, let’s prepare the rice for the kimbap. To the 4 bowls of warm cooked rice, add a pinch of salt and a drizzle of sesame oil. Gently mix with a rice paddle, being careful not to mash the grains. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed, ensuring the rice isn’t too mushy or too dry.
Step 4
Prepare the Korean cucumbers and perilla leaves, which will add a refreshing crunch and aroma. Wash the cucumbers thoroughly under running water, remove the seeds, and slice them lengthwise into strips suitable for kimbap. Gently wash the perilla leaves and pat them dry.
Step 5
Lay a sheet of Gim on a bamboo rolling mat. Spread the seasoned rice evenly over about two-thirds of the Gim, leaving the top third empty. Avoid spreading the rice too thickly, as this can cause the kimbap to burst or be difficult to roll.
Step 6
Place two prepared perilla leaves, slightly overlapping, onto the rice. The fragrant aroma of the perilla leaves will enhance the overall flavor of the kimbap.
Step 7
Generously pile the cooked Spicy Yeontan Bulgogi onto the perilla leaves. The flavorful bulgogi sauce will meld beautifully with the rice.
Step 8
Add the crisp and refreshing Korean cucumber strips on top of the bulgogi. These will provide a delightful textural contrast.
Step 9
Using the bamboo mat, lift the edge of the Gim closest to you and roll it tightly forward, tucking in the fillings. Apply firm pressure to ensure the kimbap is rolled tightly and holds its shape.
Step 10
Once rolled, lightly brush the outside of the kimbap with sesame oil. This will give it a beautiful sheen and an extra nutty aroma.
Step 11
Slice the kimbap into bite-sized pieces. To make slicing easier and prevent the rice from sticking, you can lightly coat your knife with sesame oil or dip it in water.
Step 12
Finally, sprinkle some sesame seeds over the sliced kimbap for a visually appealing and flavorful finish. Your Yeontan Bulgogi Kimbap is ready!
Step 13
The vibrant green of the Korean cucumbers makes this kimbap look incredibly appetizing!
Step 14
With a final sprinkle of sesame seeds, your Spicy Yeontan Bulgogi Kimbap is complete! It’s easy to make, offers a unique and delicious flavor, and the crisp Korean cucumbers add a wonderful touch. Enjoy this delightful kimbap with your family!
