How to Make Delicious Fish Cake Fried Rice
Let me show you how to make this wonderfully chewy and savory fish cake fried rice! It’s packed with flavor and incredibly satisfying.
Main Ingredients- 1 sheet of square fish cake (approx. 90-100g)
- 4 slices of processed ham (approx. 80g)
- 1 egg
- 1/4 stalk of green onion (approx. 50g)
- 1/2 small onion (approx. 70g)
- A small amount of zucchini (approx. 30g)
- A small amount of carrot (approx. 30g)
- 1 bowl of cooked rice (210g)
- 3 tablespoons cooking oil (45ml)
Seasoning- 1 tablespoon soy sauce (15ml)
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (15ml)
- A pinch of black pepper (to taste)
- A pinch of toasted sesame seeds (for garnish)
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce (15ml)
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (15ml)
- A pinch of black pepper (to taste)
- A pinch of toasted sesame seeds (for garnish)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, finely chop the green onion. Remove the outer skin and the root end, then dice it into about 1cm pieces (finely chopped).
Step 2
Prepare the vegetables for the fried rice. Peel and finely dice the onion into 3-5mm cubes. Dice the zucchini and carrot into similar small pieces (3-5mm). Chopping the vegetables small ensures they blend well with the rice.
Step 3
Cut the square fish cake into bite-sized pieces, about 1-1.5cm squares. Slice the ham to a similar size as the fish cake for a harmonious texture when stir-fried.
Step 4
In a bowl, crack the egg and gently whisk it with a fork or chopsticks until the yolk and white are well combined. While you could make scrambled eggs separately, incorporating it directly into the fried rice is also delicious and easy.
Step 5
Heat 3 tablespoons of cooking oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the chopped green onion and sauté until it becomes lightly golden and fragrant. This process of creating ‘green onion oil’ adds a wonderful aroma.
Step 6
Once the green onion is fragrant and golden, add the sliced fish cake, ham, and all the prepared vegetables (onion, zucchini, carrot). Increase the heat to medium-high and stir-fry for about 1-2 minutes until the vegetables are lightly cooked. Be careful not to overcook, as this can make the vegetables watery.
Step 7
When the vegetables start to look translucent, push the ingredients to one side of the pan. Pour the whisked egg into the empty space and cook, stirring gently with chopsticks to create scrambled egg pieces, similar to small rice grains. Once cooked, mix it thoroughly with the other ingredients.
Step 8
Again, push the ingredients to one side to create an empty space. Pour 1 tablespoon of soy sauce directly into this space. Let it sizzle and caramelize for about 10-15 seconds without stirring, then quickly mix it with the stir-fried ingredients. This step infuses the fried rice with a deep, smoky flavor.
Step 9
Add 1 bowl of cooked rice and 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce. Use a spatula to gently break up any clumps of rice and stir everything together evenly for another 1-2 minutes. The savory depth of the oyster sauce will enhance the overall flavor.
Step 10
Just before turning off the heat, add a pinch of black pepper, if desired. After turning off the heat, sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds for added aroma and mix well. Your cooking is now complete.
Step 11
Your delicious fish cake fried rice, infused with a smoky aroma and savory taste in every grain of rice, is ready! Enjoy it immediately while it’s hot for the best experience. Enjoy your meal! ^^~
