Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the sauce that will bring the spicy, sweet, and savory flavors to your bibim mandu. In a small bowl, combine 1 Tbsp gochujang, 1 Tbsp gochugaru, 1 Tbsp maple syrup, 1 Tbsp sesame oil, 1/2 Tbsp soy sauce, and 6 Tbsp vinegar. Whisk well until smooth and no lumps remain. Taste and adjust the sweetness or tanginess to your preference.
Step 2
Next, we’ll prepare the vegetables that provide the delightful crunch. Finely julienne the onion and cucumber. Rinse the cabbage thoroughly, then shred it coarsely. For extra crispiness, you can soak the shredded cabbage in cold water for a few minutes and then squeeze out all the excess water. Drain the julienned vegetables in a colander.
Step 3
Place the drained julienned vegetables into a larger bowl. Generously pour the prepared spicy sauce over the vegetables. Don’t be shy with the sauce; using enough will ensure every bite is flavorful.
Step 4
Now, gently toss the vegetables with the sauce until evenly coated. Mix tenderly to avoid bruising the vegetables – the key is to mix gently. Continue tossing for about 1-2 minutes until the vegetables are nicely coated with the sauce.
Step 5
Now for the star of the dish: the dumplings! Cook them to your liking. You can pan-fry them in a skillet with a little cooking oil or olive oil until golden brown and crispy, or use an air fryer for a similar effect. Cook over medium heat until the dumpling skins are beautifully crisp.
Step 6
Time to plate your masterpiece! Arrange the dressed vegetable salad attractively at the bottom of your serving dish.
Step 7
Carefully place the crispy, pan-fried dumplings on top of the dressed vegetables. Finish with a sprinkle of sesame seeds for extra flavor and visual appeal. Your delicious Spicy Bibim Mandu is now complete!
Step 8
Serve immediately and enjoy by scooping the vegetables and dumplings together. If you’re using dumplings like dangmyeon mandu (glass noodle dumplings), pile the dressed vegetables generously on top and mix them in as you eat for an even more delightful experience.
Step 9
Savor the perfect combination of sweet, sour, and spicy flavors, the refreshing crunch of fresh vegetables, and the delightful crispiness of fried dumplings! Enjoy making and eating this wonderful dish!
