Main Ingredients- 20 peeled chestnuts
Braising Sauce- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 cup water
- 2 Tbsp honey
- 1 tsp salt
- A pinch of black sesame seeds
- 1 Tbsp cooking oil
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 cup water
- 2 Tbsp honey
- 1 tsp salt
- A pinch of black sesame seeds
- 1 Tbsp cooking oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
In a pot, combine the peeled chestnuts, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 cup of water, and 1 tablespoon of cooking oil. Adding a little cooking oil helps prevent the chestnuts from sticking together and gives them a nice sheen.
Step 2
Next, add 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce, the secret to its delicious umami flavor. The rich taste of oyster sauce will deepen the sweetness of the chestnuts.
Step 3
After adding all ingredients, cover the pot with a lid and simmer over medium-low heat for about 10 minutes. Let it bubble gently to ensure the chestnuts cook through and become tender.
Step 4
After 10 minutes, check if the chestnuts are soft and taste the sauce. If the seasoning is lacking, add 1 teaspoon of salt to adjust. You can modify the amount of salt according to your preference.
Step 5
Remove the lid and continue to simmer until the sauce has reduced and thickened, coating the chestnuts. Spooning the sauce over the chestnuts as they cook will help them absorb the flavors evenly.
Step 6
Once the sauce has almost completely reduced and the chestnuts look glossy, add 2 tablespoons of honey. The honey will create a glaze on the chestnuts, adding a sweet finish and an appetizing shine.
Step 7
Finally, sprinkle a pinch of black sesame seeds for garnish, and your delicious oyster sauce glazed chestnuts are complete! The nutty flavor of the sesame seeds enhances both the taste and aroma.
Step 8
Chestnuts are rich in antioxidants beneficial for anti-aging and, due to their warm nature, they help warm the stomach, aiding digestion. They are also packed with nutrients like vitamins, protein, minerals, and calcium, making them highly nutritious. Their low calorie content makes them a recommended healthy ingredient for those on a diet, and they also offer antioxidant functions. Utilize chestnuts, a powerhouse of nutrition, frequently to take care of your health!
