Main Ingredients

  • 1 medium-sized fall daikon radish

Seasoning

  • 2 Tbsp sunflower oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Prepare one medium-sized fall daikon radish. Peel its skin thoroughly and then slice it into thin matchsticks, about 0.3 cm thick. Aim for uniform thickness so it cooks evenly.

Step 1

Step 2

Heat 2 tablespoons of sunflower oil in a wide pan. Add all the julienned daikon radish to the pan and mix well to coat it with the oil. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of salt evenly over the radish sticks. Place the pan over medium-low heat on your stovetop.

Step 2

Step 3

Cover the pan with a lid and let it steam for exactly 3 minutes once you see steam rising. This gentle steaming will draw out the natural moisture from the radish.

Step 3

Step 4

After 3 minutes, lift the lid. You’ll notice the radish has become moist from its own released juices. Using a spatula, gently stir the radish to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan or burning. Taste it and add more salt if needed to adjust the seasoning to your preference.

Step 4

Step 5

Just before turning off the heat, drizzle in 1 tablespoon of sesame oil and sprinkle 1 tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds. Gently toss everything together, being careful not to mash the radish. Over-stirring can break apart the delicate texture. Your delicious daikon radish munamul is now ready!

Step 5

Step 6

We’ve intentionally omitted strong aromatics like green onions or minced garlic. The natural sweetness and fresh flavor of the fall daikon radish are more than enough to create a delicious dish. Served over a bowl of warm white rice, this munamul is so good, it disappears in an instant! Enjoy this healthy and satisfying meal.
