Main Ingredients

  • 1 can (large) Tuna, with its oil
  • 2 handfuls Dried cut seaweed (approx. 10-15g)

Seasonings & Others

  • 1 Tbsp Sesame oil
  • 2-3 Tbsp Fish sauce (or Korean soup soy sauce) – adjust to taste
  • 1 Tbsp Korean soup soy sauce (optional)
  • 1 Tbsp Minced garlic (optional)
  • 2 L Water
  • Salt, to taste

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, soak the dried cut seaweed in cold water for about 20-30 minutes until it’s fully rehydrated and soft. Rinse the softened seaweed thoroughly under cold running water, then gently squeeze out excess water with your hands. Place the squeezed seaweed into a pot and add 1 tablespoon of sesame oil.

Step 2

Add the entire can of tuna, including the oil, to the pot with the seaweed. If using, add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic and 2-3 tablespoons of fish sauce (or Korean soup soy sauce). Stir-fry over medium heat for about 3-5 minutes. This step helps to deepen the flavor of the seaweed and create a richer broth.

Step 3

Once the ingredients are well-stirred and slightly sautéed, pour in 2 liters of water. Bring the soup to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to medium and let it simmer gently.

Step 3

Step 4

Continue to simmer, uncovered, over medium-low heat for another 10-15 minutes, or until the seaweed is tender and the flavors have melded beautifully. Finally, taste the soup and adjust the seasoning with a little salt if needed. Your delicious Tuna Seaweed Soup is ready to be enjoyed, especially with a warm bowl of rice!
