Main Ingredients

  • 500g Goose Barnacles
  • 500g Spot Prawns
  • 1/2 bunch Chives (approx. 50g)
  • 10 Spring Onions
  • 1/3 Zucchini
  • 1/2 Onion

Batter and Seasoning

  • 1/2 cup Pancake Mix (approx. 60g)
  • 1/2 cup Tempura Flour (approx. 50g)
  • 1 cup Cold Water (approx. 200ml)
  • 1 Egg

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Rinse the goose barnacles thoroughly under running water. Place them in a pot of boiling water and boil for about 7 minutes. Once boiled, rinse them in cold water to cool, then carefully remove the shells and extract the meat. (Tip: Adding the goose barnacles to cold water before boiling can result in a more tender texture.)

Step 1

Step 2

Place the spot prawns in cold water and remove them as soon as the water begins to boil, then prepare them. (Note: Avoid overcooking the spot prawns. You can substitute with raw shrimp or other seafood like squid or clams.)

Step 2

Step 3

Wash and finely chop the chives. Cut the spring onions into 5cm lengths. Thinly julienne the zucchini and onion.

Step 3

Step 4

In a large bowl, combine 1/2 cup of pancake mix and 1/2 cup of tempura flour. Crack in 1 egg.

Step 4

Step 5

Add the prepared spot prawn meat and goose barnacle meat to the bowl. Then, add the chopped chives, spring onions, zucchini, and onion. Pour in 1 cup of cold water and mix well until no dry flour remains, creating a batter with all the ingredients incorporated.

Step 5

Step 6

(Optional) After mixing the batter, refrigerating it for about 30 minutes can enhance the crispiness. Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Ladle portions of the batter into the hot pan and cook until golden brown on both sides, creating a delicious seafood and chive pancake!
